Jason checked his phone again that evening.

He hadn't had a response since Friday, yet he still hoped it would come.

He knew the girl had lost her phone so he'd initially figured she hadn't been able to contact him because of that reason. But it was Sunday, what was taking her so long?

He'd barely made it through the weekend without her, yet there he was, sharing a table with someone who wasn't her.

"Kendra, will you be joining us at the founders' ball?"

It was at that moment Jason decided to pay attention to what they'd been talking about. And it didn't take him long at all to say,

"No she won't."

They had to be kidding him. Now they were inviting her to arguably the biggest evening of the year? It was getting ridiculous.

He knew his family thought that the more they exposed him to the girl the more he was likely to fall for her, they couldn't have been more wrong. If anything, the more he saw her the more repulsed he seemed to get.

"Don't be silly Jason, of course she can come if she wishes. She's basically family now."

They really thought they could show him how well she did in their world and that would somehow convince him to be with her, it was like they didn't know him at all.

Completely irritated by the evening's events, not to mention the lack of response from Amy, Jason decided to stand up from his chair on the table to take his leave.

He respectfully said goodbye to all before heading out.

But as he approached his car, he heard,

"She does this you know, she disappears. I love my sister but she's not someone you can ever count on. Trust me, I speak from experience.

Her dad choosing not to be in her life, it really affected her, more than she'd like to admit. So she'll never be the girl you can count on."

Kendra knew her sister well. So much that she knew after their little scuffle she wasn't going to contact Jason. She was not lying at all, Amy truly was affected by her biological father's absence.

The girl had never said it out loud but Kendra knew it very well. She'd had abandonment issues that she hadn't yet acknowledged.

In her head, Kendra thought she was doing him a favor, she was saving him.

She thought he deserved someone who was going to be consistent, like her. Not someone who constantly doubted herself and pushed away the good things that came into her life.

"You can deny it all you want, but deep down you know I'm telling the truth. She's broken, and she's only going to waste your time."

She'd finished.

Kendra had decided that her sister might have been blood, but she was done with her.

She couldn't trust the girl and that was a big thing to her. She'd officially become one of the girls she'd hated in high school, the girl who was jealous of her and wanted what was hers.
