"You have friends?!"
"Well, don't sound so shocked."
Amy's facial expression betrayed her.
She remembered the man mentioning how his friends called him JJ when they met, but not a word about them since.
"This has to be a prank. A diversion maybe? From everything that's happeni..."
"Today we don't worry about any of that. Today you meet the pack."
"The pack? Is that what you call yourselves?"
Her laughter took on its own life, she couldn't make it stop.
"Yes, we were the raddest crew in college."
She'd been laughing so hard tears had started coming out of her eyes.
"Somehow I really doubt that. You may be this cute hunk now, but I don't think it's always been that way."
Something about Jason gave her major nerd vibes.
She'd done the college thing herself, people with his personality mostly went on unnoticed.
At first glance, nothing about him screamed 'look at me'. Any normal person would find him... bland.
Until they got to know him of course.
She could picture the kind of person he was in college, someone who was not so different from herself.
Someone who knew why they were there; to continue driving their passion.
They didn't do the partying thing and they certainly didn't drink themselves to filth.
College to them meant actually studying so they could pursue a career in what they loved to do.
"A cute hunk huh?"
Jason wiggled his eyebrows as he said.
"That's what you heard? I practically called you a poser."
"I'll take my wins where I can find them my love."
He'd said then swiftly laid a kiss on the girl's knuckles, while his other hand rested on the steering wheel.
"Tell me about them."
Amy heard herself say.
Even though she knew Jason from the many times they'd spent conversing, there was still much she knew she was clueless about.
He was a businessman, he gave only what he thought was necessary. That wasn't lost on her.
The fact that she was only really hearing about his friends months later spoke volumes.
"Well, for starters, they are nothing like me. They are more... human? They figured this whole life thing out way before I did.
What matters... or what should matter.
I guess we haven't been very close in the recent years. We just had different aspirations and all."
Amy spotted an unreadable look on her lover's face. She made a note of it on her 'wonders of Jason' mental list.
"What do you mean?"
She failed to stop the words from slipping through her lips.
