——————————-—"I'm not a bad person, you know?"
Jason carefully tied up his tie, making sure it was symmetrical from all angles, just like his old man had taught him.
He couldn't let his opponents see a flaw, not even in his attire. Or when his heart ached.
A man's job was to be well put at all times.
"I know you look at me and think the absolute worst, but you're wrong. I may have had my not-so-great moments, but I'm not the villain."
He proceeded to pull the lengthy part of the silky cloth, making sure the knot was sealed. Then he tinted his suit lightly with his fingers.
He turned to the side slightly and tinted off the bumps that made his suit surface look uneven.
"She may have had you fooled, but Amy -..."
"You don't talk about her! Don't you dare utter a word about her!"
His breath felt heavy as he said.
Zero to a hundred, that was always the flaw. And it only happened when one person was mentioned.
He then tried to cool himself down but,
"She's my sister, I love her... whether you believe that or not."
He simply chuckled in response.
"You weren't there back then, you don't know what we've been through together. You don't know the things that I've done to protect her."
"What is this Kendra? What's the point of you telling me this? Do you actually think I care about your innocence?"
He felt himself losing his patience again as he asked.
When the girl entered his chambers, he knew it was planned by none other than his dear mother.
He didn't make a scene because he knew that a bigger plan was likely at play.
He wanted to get the evening over and done with gracefully, and he knew the only way that would happen was if he calmed himself.
But,
"I know you don't care about me. But I know you care about her."
"Kendra, my composure is running very thin. I'm sure you've been made aware; Amy and I are broken up. Now, whatever this is, you need to quit it. I don't want her involved in any of your tricks anymore.
You don't care about her, I don't know why you're trying to convince me otherwise, but you leave her alone."
Had it already started? His biggest fear. Were they working on it?
His heart tightened.
When Jason had gotten a message from his mother a few weeks before, he knew there was only one thing that was left to do.
