The clock ticked loudly for his attention, the evening's darkness and his office's illumination created a mirror of his floor-to-ceiling windows.
He stood up from his desk and started walking toward the stunning view of the city. Even in the sight of such perfection, she seemed to be the only thing that populated his mind.
He took a moment to stare at his reflection.
It didn't make any sense.
How could something be so bad for you yet feel so good?
Good was far from the adjective he would prefer to use to describe her, enchanting came close but it was only because he'd felt enchanted in her presence. As far as he was concerned, the word to describe her didn't exist, because her existence in itself was out of this world. A masterpiece.
But there it was; a masterpiece.
That was what she was.
She resembled a rose that bloomed only in the finest of conditions. Thorns and all.
He could barely contain himself.
His body was not his whenever she was around, it succumbed to his heart's deepest desire; her.
She could've asked absolutely anything of him and he would've delivered without hesitation. He was willing to risk it all for her.
He stood wondering if life was better before or after he'd known her, there was a time he would've said before without much thought.
But lately he'd wondered if love was indeed a waste of emotion.
Was it really so bad that he felt a little out of control? Having had everything so put together all his life, it felt good to have his core shaken.
To have something, or rather someone, demolish his world and make him question everything he thought he knew.
Oh what trouble she was, but he loved every minute of it, of her.
Yes he'd said it, he loved her.
He didn't have much comprehension when it came to the word but it didn't matter to him.
All he knew was what he was feeling scared and excited him all in one go.
He found himself wondering if she was still around.
It was a little later in the evening but her portfolio did say that she stayed around most nights.
Their interaction earlier on confirmed to him that she felt the same way, or at least there were some feelings there.
He hadn't planned to ask her out or anything, but he did hope to see her. The most that could happen was if they greeted each other. But that was a lot on its own as there were possibly other interns who stayed behind.
He was going to be ok with just the sight of her. He was going to be more than ok, he was going to sleep joyfully at night, knowing that he saw the one person who kept him aflame lately.
So down the long hallway and into the elevator he'd gone, his heart pounded eagerly against his chest. Fireworks went off as he treaded on the red carpet that led to a place his heart belonged.
