Keep her head down, that was the plan.
All she needed to do was her job and repeat, anything outside of that she needn't concern herself with.
And it worked, all seemed to be... well.
She'd eventually finished all the work she'd left behind and Ms. Viera seemed to not have a recollection of her existence anymore.
That worked in her favor.
Her whole life she'd lived in the shadows of other people's spotlights and she'd realized she hadn't appreciated that enough.
The darkness.
Where people knew not of her existence and she didn't have to worry about losing her job and family as a result.
Her return to the shadows brought her back to the calm. To her comfort zone.
To the place she knew all too well.
It all went on so seamlessly.
Until, well...
"Amy, I need you to come pick something up from the Cooper mansion."
"Today?"
Her breath felt heavy.
She'd secretly rejoiced when they told her she couldn't go to the Cooper's ball.
It was partly because she was not the audience for such flair.
The other reason was that a certain someone she hadn't seen since their interaction in the engineering wing was going to be there.
They'd had this unspoken agreement to stay away from each other and it worked for Amy.
The large building they worked in allowed for this to happen.
The longer she didn't see him the more her feelings for him retreated.
It was taking her a while but she was slowly recovering from his grievous wrath.
The only way she was going to completely heal from his absence was to be in his absence.
But,
"Are you slow? If I wanted you to come any other day I would've said that. Be here in 20 minutes."
The phone line was cut shortly after.
Knowing that there was likely going to be traffic going into the mansion, Amy rid herself of asking too many questions.
Like why the older lady couldn't just get one of the other interns to bring the 'thing' with them from the ball. Or why there was a thing that needed to be fetched from the Cooper mansion on that specific day and time in the first place.
Or why her? There were a few interns who'd chosen not to go to the ball and to instead stay behind and work. There was much to do.
Common sense evaded Amy because, yet again, her job was on the line.
She'd been walking on thin ice since, well... the wrath.
