It was past nine at night, the night sky was lit with gold auroras dancing in the sky. Little fireflies began to circle the Jingshi, as if they were trying to protect it. Thousands of little lightning bugs twinkled like stars dancing around Cloud Recesses. Lan Wangji and Lan Xichen had already turned in for the night. Sitting snug within a warm cauldron the egg began to move.
Two little fireflies slipped inside through a window. One went over to Lan Xichen and the other to Lan Wangji. The little fireflies landed on the noses of the twin Jades waking up from the little tickle of the legs. Lan Wangji gasped as he shooed away the bug. Lan Xichen tried his best not to laugh at his little brother. Seeing his little brother afraid of a little bug has always been something interesting to Lan Xichen. His brother was strong and prominent but the second he was just centimeters away from a bug, Lan Wangji turns into a three year old toddler scared out of his wits.
"Wangji, the egg," Lan Xichen pointed out, "remove it from the cauldron carefully."
Lan Wangji nodded as he slowly reached inside and picked up the egg. It did not burn him or scold his hands. It was hot but to Lan Wangji it was bearable. Lan Xichen didn't even want to attempt to touch it. The only thing he did was set the other insulated blanket they had in a cradle beside Lan Wangji's bed. Once the egg was cooled, it began to twitch and move again. Lan Qiren came barging in like he had gone mad. The sky was different and there were bugs everywhere. Once he noticed the egg moving, he knew that Wei Wuxian was coming.
"Shufu, no need to make a fuss," Lan Xichen told him.
"The sky has dancing auroras of gold and there are thousands of fireflies shielding the Jingshi. I had to come check for myself," Lan Qiren stated.
"Shufu, when Wei Wuxian is born, we do not want him going back to the path he went on. He need proper treatment, if he needs discipline, no beatings. He should be free spirited as his character should be," Lan Xichen demanded.
Lan Qiren knew that what Lan Xichen had said was true. Wei Wuxian is sensitive and will take everything into consideration as he grows. It would do them good to do right by Wei Wuxian. There were rules that he does not have to follow but others he should. Lan Wangji even handed over some of the scrolls he had read from Wei Wuxian's parents to Lan Qiren and Lan Xichen to read so they can learn about the Celestial Realm as well.
A golden glow came from the egg in the cradle. After a few seconds, the glow extinguished and laid there a little baby boy with beautiful blue eyes. The little child did not cry but he smiled. He smiled at the first person he laid his eyes on; Lan Wangji. Lan Xichen could see his little brother's ears turning a bright pink. He calmly stepped forward and grabbed the infant clothing they had prepared for the little one. He carefully dress the little boy and covered him in a blanket. Lan Wangji couldn't help but pick up the little infant and cradle him in his arms.
"Wei Ying," Lan Wangji said quietly and calmly, "welcome back to this world little one."
Wei Ying giggled as he placed his little hand on Lan Wangji's face. Lan Wangji froze on the spot as he just stared into the gentle blue eyes of the infant. Lan Wangji eased up when he saw that Wei Ying might be getting uncomfortable and it calmed him down after Lan Wangji calmed down.
"I will send a message to Tian Jun and tell him the new in the morning. For now, try to get some rest, both of you," Lan Qiren said looking at Wei Ying before leaving Jingshi.
"Seems to me Wei Wuxian likes you," Lan Xichen teased.
"Ridiculous," Lan Wangji said sitting down on the bed, "to make him feel more comfortable, perhaps you could call him more informally."
"I will call him A'Xian, since his birth name is reserved for you," Lan Xichen told him.
"I'll go with A'Ying. Less chances of people knowing he is a Wei," Lan Wangji said.
"We could speak with Shufu, perhaps we could just call him a Lan, it would help a bit more," Lan Xichen told him.
"Lan Ying, Lan Wuxian," Lan Wangji told him, "I suppose so. How old should he be before we tell him his true self?"
"Maybe we should speak with his parents on that first. I don't want to hide it from A'Xian, but we need to be smart on when we tell him," Lan Xichen explained and began to leave.
"Where are you going?" Lan Wangji asked.
"The infant needs to eat, he was just born," Lan Xichen answered, "I will be back from the infirmary shortly."
"Mnn," Wangji said with a sigh.
He was then left alone with Wei Ying. He and Wei Ying just stared into each other's eyes for a good few minutes. Lan Wangji couldn't help but smile gently to the little child as he let Wei Ying hold his pointer finger. Lan Wangji had never held a little infant before. He never had a chance to let a tiny hand grip onto him as if this infant was the safest it could be holding onto. Lan Wangji gently held that little hand as if it was the most precious treasure he had been given. Lan Wangji cooed at how cute Little Wei Ying was in his arms and didn't want to let any harm come to him. Lan Wangji made a vow that night, he would love and protect Wei Ying forever and do what he could to keep him safe and happy.
