It's been three years since Wei Ying had been in Lan Wangji's care. Lan Xichen still stayed within Jingshi to help him, but he also had his duties as a sect leader. Since it's been some time, Lan Wangji has been getting the hang of things. He appreciates the help from his brother, even his uncle, when it is offered. As of right now, Lan Xichen has been in Qinghe for conference meetings all week and is due to return anytime.
The secret that is Wei Wuxian's rebirth remained unknown in the cultivation world. Even so, the Jiang Sect, who has vowed to gain vengeance for the death of Yu Ziyuan, did not even know he was alive. Lan Wangji, was alone in the Jingshi, Little Wei Ying was asleep in the other room. Wangji was at his desk reading scriptures when he heard the cries of Wei Ying. He set down the current scripts he was reading and went to go see him.
"Ahhh, haa, ahh! A'Zhaaa," a little child's voice cried out.
Wei Ying had been napping for a few hours, when he suddenly woke up screaming for Lan Wangji. He knelt down beside the little toddler and started to hum to him as he gently ran his fingers through the little boy's hair.
"A'Zhaa!" Wei Ying whined, "so scarwy!"
"I'm here," Lan Wangji told him, "I won't let anyone or anything hurt you," Wei Ying held out his arms, wanting Lan Wangji to hold him. Lan Wangji gave him a gentle smile as he picked up Wei Ying and cradled the little three year old in his arms, "Want to come out to the main room with me?"
"Mn!" Wei Ying said enthusiastically. Lan Wangji's smile grew a bit more and placed a kiss on the boy's forehead. Wei Ying giggled, "A'Zha, No kisses!" Wei Ying said holding his face.
"Why not?" Wangji asked as he sat back down at his desk in the main room, "I want to give A'Ying so many kisses."
Wei Ying squealed as Lan Wangji coated the toddler's face in little butterfly kisses. Lan Wangji stopped and cooed out a soft laugh at how cute Wei Ying was. During the three years, Lan Wangji had become very fond of Wei Ying. He even grew very protective over him. It was a normal reaction to a person who was raising a child, but Wei Wuxian wasn't his child. Wei Wuxian was his soulmate who was reborn.
Wei Wuxian being a Phoenix, Lan Wangji was very much intrigued. Lan Wangji would do anything to keep this little one in his arms safe. He even wanted him to be happy, and carefree, just how a Phoenix should be.
"Wov A'Zha," Wei Ying said as his hand was still on Wangji's face.
Lan Wangji placed one more kiss on Wei Ying's forehead, "I love my A'Ying."
"Dweam, fire all ower," Wei Ying told him.
"Is fire scary?" Wangji asked.
"Mnn," Wei Ying replied.
"It can be, but it can also be good," Wangji assured him.
"You bwurn," Wei Ying told him.
"I will not allow that to happen," Wangji said, "fire cannot hurt me."
"How?" Wei Ying asked.
"Magic," Wangji answered, "it will be okay little one, you do not need to be scared or worried. I am here and safe."
"Mmm," Wei Ying let out a moan and hid his face in Wangji's chest.
"Is A'Ying hungry?" Wangji asked.
"No," Wei Ying answered.
"Will you tell me when you are?" Wangji asked.
"Mnn."
"Does A'Ying need more kisses and tickles to feel better?" Wangji asked.
Wei Ying giggled, "no!"
Wangji used his free hand to gently tickle the little toddler in his arms. Wei Ying giggled and squirmed, "A'Zha! Ha haaha!"
Wangji smiled down at the little boy as he continued to play with him. Lan Wangji didn't even hear his brother return or even enter and sit beside him. Lan Xichen was awestruck by the sight of his brother being this happy and playful.
"GeGe! Help!" Wei Ying cried out in between giggles.
Lan Wangji finally took notice of Lan Xichen but didn't really stop at the moment, "help you?" Xichen asked, "A'Zhan has you in his grip."
Lan Wangji soon decided to cool it. Wei Wuxian needed a bit to calm down from all the laughing and giggling, "Want to go see Gege?" Wangji asked.
Wei Ying turned his head away from Xichen, "ooooh, what are you snubbing me for?" He asked.
"Did not help me," Wei Ying replied.
"Can't help you on that one," Wangji said, "but more A'Ying for me."
"Can I have a dwink?" Wei Ying asked.
Lan Xichen kindly poured some water for him and Wangji helped him with it, "how was the meeting?"
"Long," Xichen answered, "things have been quiet for the moment. I have yet to know if that is good or bad."
"Jiang Wanyin?" Wangji asked.
"Bad man?!" Wei Ying asked afraid.
"He is not here...I will not say his name around you again, okay," Wangji quickly assured him.
"Okay," Wei Ying said as he curled up in Wangji's arms, snuggling up as close as possible to him.
"He is not a threat at the moment," Xichen said, "he also doesn't know what happened to him. Plus, he is not very smart if he thinks he can challenge the gods."
"I hear the Phoenix is almost as powerful as the most prestigious god, he wouldn't actually try to go after one?" Wangji asked. He didn't say anything directly so he could keep Wei Ying calm.
Lan Xichen understands that and knows how to interpret Wangji very well, which he felt as a good thing at the moment, "I know," he said.
"Are you still tired?" Wangji asked Wei Ying.
"To afwaid," Wei Ying answered.
"What is wrong?" Lan Xichen asked.
"Wei Ying had a bad dream," Wangji replied, "he saw me get hurt...with fire."
Lan Xichen tried to keep himself from pulling a smirk, "you are immune to fire for specific reasons," He said, "fire cannot hurt you."
"I assured him of that, he just needs some time to get through it," Wangji said.
