Chapter 32 - Bunny

Wei Ying was in the library with Lan Wangji after his session with Jilpa. He was being trained to control his fire abilities, but he still had his other class sessions to deal with. Wei Ying was busy reading what Lan Wangji had assigned him but he was a bit distracted by his thoughts. He was told he had two lives before he was in Wangji's care. Though, he met Wangji in last life, he wondered what their relationship was like.

"A'Zhan?" Wei Ying asked, "I know I am supposed to be reading but my mind is distracted."

"Why?" Wangji asked as he set his book down and looked at Wei Ying who was sitting beside him.

"You said you met me before I came into your care. Meaning a past life. What was our relationship like then?" Wei Ying asked.

"That isn't really something to dwell on," Wangji said.

"I know, sorry," Wei Ying said and looked down at his book, "I was just curious. How did you know you were immune to my fire?"

Lan Wangji sighed. He has been open and honest with Wei Ying up to this point and he knows he should always be honest with him. He knows that Wei Ying is smart and strong enough to handle the truth.

"Due to your mistreatment from the people who took care of you before me, you were a bit angry, sad, arrogant and distant. I was not much better though, as I was closed off from people. I did not care much for interaction. Any time someone provoked you, you would get so angry and upset. Even to the point where you engulfed into flames. You exhausted yourself and passed out. GeGe and I tried to help you but you were just in so much pain."

"Did I hurt you?" Wei Ying asked.

"No, but I worried about you. It was also the first time I saw you had fire cultivation, and it was a unique color for your flames," Wangji answered.

"I noticed that, I didn't ask Jilpa but do you know why my flames are gold instead of normal orange and red?" Wei Ying asked.

"Remember I said you were a phoenix?" Wangji told him.

"Well yes," Wei Ying said, "do phoenixes have different flames?"

"No, but you do. You are a special kind of phoenix. You are a White phoenix, with golden flames and beautiful blue eyes. Your feathers glistening in the sunlight have a gold shimmer to them. So, Wei Ying is beautiful when he is a Phoenix, but he is cute as a boy," Wangji said.

"Cute?" Wei Ying asked and folded his arms across his chest, "who are you calling cute? I'm not cute!"

"Yes you are," Wangji said being playful with him again, "Wei Ying is very cute. Cute like a bunny."

Wei Ying looked at Lan Wangji. He blinked at him in shock, "I'm not a bunny? You said I was a phoenix."

"At the moment you are a cute little bunny," Wangji said pinching Wei Ying's cheek.

"A'Zhan!" Wei Ying said in protest with a giggle, "I'm not a bunny. You are."

"I'm not a bunny," Wangji said, "I'm too rigid to be a bunny."

"You are not rigid," Wei Ying said, "you are too playful to me to be rigid."

"I'm only like this around you," Wangji told him.

"Why?" Wei Ying asked, "do you not have any other friends?"

"Wei Ying and GeGe are all I want," Wangji said, "I do not mind being more reserved."

Wei Ying stood up and moved to Wangji's lap, "I will always be your friend A'Zhan. More than a friend. I will be whatever you want me to be," he said, "not a bunny though."

Lan Wangji smiled, "you are my soulmate, remember? So yes, you are like a friend, more than that even. You are my everything. In time you will understand. And yes, you are definitely a bunny. You have bunny teeth, so you are a bunny."

"First you call me a baby, and now I am a bunny, what else am I?" Wei Ying asked.

"Baby, bunny, and firebird," Wangji replied, "You are a baby bunny, that's it."

"I am not," Wei Ying argued.

"Yes you are," Wangji said with a chuckle.

Wei Ying giggled, "fine," he said, "also, in my old life, if I hurt you, I am sorry."

Lan Wangji gently held Wei Ying's face, "you do not need to apologize to me. Especially when it is all in the past, way in the past. All we can do is learn from them and move forward," Wangji said and placed a kiss on Wei Ying's forehead.

"Okay," Wei Ying said and looked at his book, "I should try to finish reading that, shouldn't I?"

"That would make you a good student if you did," Wangji said.

"Do I have to move?" Wei Ying asked, "I like sitting here."

Lan Wangji smiled, "you can sit on my lap if you like."

Wei Ying hugged him, "thank you," he said and turned around so he could get back to reading his book.

A smile remained on Wangji's face as he watched Wei Ying get back to focusing on his reading. Lan Wangji placed his hand on the back of Wei Ying's head and pulled him closer for a moment to place another kiss on Wei Ying's cheek. Wei Ying giggled for a second from the kiss but went back to focusing on his reading.
