Chapter 3: Saying goodbye

I was finally done packing everything when I hear everyone downstairs. I rush getting my things and find my way downstairs to see everyone in the living room.

"Finally, Cassie. I thought you were going to take forever to get down here." Damon said sipping his Bourbon he had poured into his fancy glass.

"Oh, Cassie I'm going to miss you." Caroline said walking towards me being the first to hug me out of all of them.

All of them came over to hug me. Finally, Jeremy finally came over and gave me a tight hug. "I'm going to miss you Cassie May." he said and wouldn't let go. I can feel my jacket getting wetter and I know he's crying. "Jer, I'm going to miss you too." I said starting to tear up. I didn't want to leave him. I pulled away finally to see him crying. "Jer, I'm always going to be a call away. If you need me call me and dh I'll be here as soon as possible. I mean I do have vamp speed. "I know Cassie. Thank you for everything." "And thank you for everything Jer."

I finally look over to see Damon looking at the fire. I walk over to him and see that he's trying not to cry. "Oh Dee, I know your trying not to cry. It's ok to miss me you know."

"Whatever. I'm not going to miss you." he said looking directly at the fire.

"Please Dee, don't lie to me." I said going to wrap my arms around his waist and pulling him into a hug. He finally broke down crying.

"Alright, I'm going to miss you flower. You've practically have become family to me. I don't want to lose you now, especially with everything going on." he said holding me close and tight.

"Aw, isn't this adorable." A familiar voice says. I look over to see Stefan at the entry way to the living room.

"What the hell are you doing her Stef." I said walking towards him. "Oh, calm down Cass. I just came to say goodbye. That and Klaus wanted me to keep an eye on his little blood bag." he said point to Elena.

"Whatever. Come on Cass were leaving." Damon says grabbing my bags and walking towards the car. I give everyone one last hug and say goodbye to them all. While giving Stefan an evil eye on the way out and him just giving me a smirk.

I go out of the house to see Damon talking to someone. He moves to the side, and I see Alaric.

"Ric." I ran over to him and gave him the biggest hug. My tears returning instantly. "I didn't think you would come."

"And not say goodbye to my favorite person in the entire world. I could never." he said chuckling and hugging me even tighter. Tears forming in his eyes as well.

"I'm going to miss you so much. Thank you for everything Ric." I said backing away to look at the man who have practically become a second father to me.

"I'm going to miss you too jellybean. And thank you. You practically saved my life and showed me what it was like to have a family again. I know you have a dad, but you have practically become a daughter to me, I love you so much Cassie." he said pulling me back into a hug.

"I love you too dad." I said and I can feel him sigh in relief and hug me even tighter.

"I hate to break this up but were going to be late for her flight. Do you wanna come with us Ric." Damon said twirling the keys to his car in his hands.

"No, I can't I gotta make sure Jeremey and Elena get home safe and get ready for school." he said looking over the two as the emerge from the house. I hug him all over again and start sobbing. "Hey, kid it's going to be ok. You ever need someone to talk to I will always be here. If you need me call me and I'll be on the next flight out no matter what's going on."

"I know, I just am going to miss you so much." I said pulling myself back, practically restraining myself from hugging him all over again. "I love you dad." I spoke.

"I love you too jellybean."

I was going to hug him again when Damon grabs my arm and practically shoves me into his car. "Sorry kid but were going to miss your flight if we don't leave now."

I look out of the car to see them all standing outside waving as me and Damon leave. I wave back and look out to the window at my second family. Leaving them for the family that doesn't even know I exist half of the time.

Damon and I finally reach the airport and exit the car. I say my goodbyes to him again and set foot in the airport. I check my baggage in and get to my plane on time. I board the plan and put in earbuds to block out the people on the plane. Next stop, Beacon Hills.
