I watch as Damon leaves the clinic in a hurry and turn my attention back to my unconscious daughter.
"What the hell is going on with the two of them?" I ask, turning to Deaton.
"Well, before I had no idea what was happening to Scott. Now that Cassie's here, I think I might know what's going on." Deaton said.
"And what is it?" Melissa asks, stepping closer to Scott.
"I think it's a mate thing. I will have to do more research, but I believe it has to do with their mate bond." Deaton said.
"Mate bond? What the hell are you talking about?" I ask.
"You don't know?" Allison asks me.
"Know what?" I asked, getting annoyed.
"Werewolves have mates." Deaton says, "It's incredibly rare though. I'm guessing because Scott is a true alpha then that means he has a mate. Either way, Cassie is Scott's mate."
"Oh god. You've got to be kidding me." I said, putting a hand over my face. Rubbing the tiredness from my eyes.
"Wait, so what does this have to do with mates?" Stiles asks.
"Well, once mates meet, they are connected through a bond. Through that bond they can feel each other's emotions and physical pains depending on how strong the bond is. Unfortunately, with that bond in place a wolf cannot go long without there mate before it feels like it's being rejected. Which means the bond starts to break. Then this happens." Deaton says, pointing to Scott and Cassie.
"Wait, so you're saying that because their mates. Scott and Cassie can't be gone for long from each other before they start to die?" Stiles asks.
"Not both of them, just Scott. One Cassie is immortal she can't die. Not from this at least. Also, because Cassie isn't a werewolf she doesn't have as strong as a mate connection as Scott does. So, Cassie will feel like she is dying and might get there but she won't actually die. Scott however will, because his mate bond is the strongest." Deaton says.
"So, my son's life is depending on Cassie?" Melissa asks.
"I'm afraid so. Now let's leave them be." Deaton says moving over to them, moving their hands so they were holding each other. "Hopefully that will get the bond healed. Now let's leave. I will stay here and inform you when they wake." Deaton says, moving everyone towards the door.
I give once last look to Cassie, hoping that she wakes up soon.
