A/N: And we're back to Jade's POV! I'll probably drop a funky little Iida POV now and then, but this is mainly Jade's narration.
As soon as I get back home from Sero's house, I take a quick shower and change into some comfortable clothes to travel to the school. My hair is still drying by the time I get on the train, but I've packed a hairbrush and some hair ties so I can quickly fix my hair once it's dry enough to do so. Anxiety courses through my blood. This is one of the three chances I'll get to impress pros. Am I good enough to do that?
I shake those thoughts out of my head. I can't afford to be thinking like that. In an effort to think about something else, my brain wanders to Tenya. He was so nice to me last night. I love seeing him loosen up around me since he's always so rigid at school. I can't wait to see him in the Sports Festival. If any of us are going to impress pros, it's going to be him.
If I focus hard enough, I can still feel the soft fabric of his shirt against my body and smell his sweet cologne. And he called me beautiful ... he thinks I'm beautiful ...
Feelings I've been ignoring come to the surface. Maybe I do like Tenya. Would that be so bad? He's the perfect gentleman, and he's so sweet ...
I shake my head again. I can't think like that today either. Tomorrow and every day after this, I can think about these feelings, but not today. I can't let my heart ache like this. Oh god, how am I going to face Tenya today? We'll be too busy to have much of a conversation today, so I don't have much to worry about right?
Too many thoughts, gotta find some way to drown them out. I reach into my bag and pull out some earbuds. Music ought to sort me out. I let the beat pump through my ears, chasing away any thoughts that I might have as I approach the school. There's a huge crowd gathered at the front, but I show my student ID to a pro at a side entrance and she lets me in. I race to the stadium and change out in the bathroom, brushing and braiding my hair on the way to the waiting room.
By the time I arrive in the waiting room, only about half of the class is here.
"Jade!" Denki is the first to greet me. "Are you excited?"
"I feel like I'm about to shit myself, so I'm more nervous than anything." I sigh. Suddenly the Sports Festival seems like a lot less fun than it was made out to be.
"IBS?"
"Just anxiety." I try to smile. "I'm so fucking scared, Denki."
He loops his arm through mine and drags me to one of the tables. "You'll be fine. It's gonna be okay."
"I feel like I'm gonna throw up."
"Just drink some water, it's gonna be fine." He grabs a water bottle for me. "I'm the same way."
"That makes me feel a little better."
The rest of our classmates arrive, though I don't see Tenya. Does he have class rep stuff to do today? Knowing him, he arrived far before the rest of us, so it's not like he's running late.
I rest my head on the table, trying to calm my breathing.
The door to the waiting room flies open. I lift my head up to see what's going on.
"Everyone!" Tenya calls to us. "Get your game faces on! We're entering the arena soon!"
My stomach stirs. Will I have time for a bathroom break before we go on?
"About how soon is soon?" I ask, feeling my throat become increasingly drier. I guzzle the water bottle in two seconds flat.
"In about fifteen minutes." Tenya comes over to me. "Are you alright? You look rather pale."
