I meet Denki at the door to the little cafe. He jumps up when he sees me, running to my side.

"Are you hungry?" I ask.

"Absolutely I am." He says.

"Then let's get some brunch."

We walk into the cafe, where a waitress takes us to a little table. It doesn't seem too terribly busy right now. We place our orders and wait for our food. It arrives in what seems like minutes, as Denki and I have barely just started a conversation when the dishes are set in front of us. My apple cider smells amazing, but I know I'll burn the shit out of my mouth if I try to drink it now, so I have to wait a bit.

"What do we think of the hero course so far?" I cut my pancakes into tiny, bite-sized pieces.

"It's a lot of fun! Except for when I'm getting my ass handed to me, but it's still fun!" Denki takes a giant bite of his toast.

"I honestly wasn't expecting to have this many friends so quickly. I didn't really have friends in middle school, so this was a little unexpected."

"I had like one friend in middle school but they haven't talked to me since school started. Which is why I'm so glad we're friends."

"Best decision we've ever made." I smile.

"What about Iida?" Denki sips his iced coffee. "You won him over pretty quickly and you're always talking to him, so what do you think of him?"

I stir honey into my apple cider. "I think he's a great friend and god, he's gonna be an incredible hero. He's a little rigid, but he might just have trouble in social situations, so I won't hold that against him."

"He's a little strict."

"Not with me. Maybe try to get to know him?"

"Jade," Denki leans forward like an armchair psychiatrist, "I can tell you right now, the reason he's not strict with you is because he thinks you're pretty."

I shake my head. "No he doesn't."

"You don't see the way he stares at you during class or when he thinks you won't notice."

"Eat your toast." I look down to avoid letting Denki see the pink that's rising to my face. I don't know if Iida likes me, and honestly, I think it might be too early to tell. Still, what's the harm if he does? There are plenty of guys who are way worse. And who doesn't want to be thought of as pretty?

We finish our little brunch and go to the bookstore next door. We tell ourselves that we're not here to buy anything, but I know full well that I'm going to be leaving with at least one book, if not more.

The first section we stop by is the manga section, where I see the a volume of my favorite manga that I don't have yet.

"Oh, man, Saiki K?" Denki says as I grab it to check the price. "I love this one!"

"We are the same person." I tuck the book under my arm. "Come on, let's look at some more stuff."

"Is it okay if we take a look at the classic literature?" Denki rubs the back of his neck. "I know I don't necessarily look or act like it, but I love to read."

"I'm so glad you're my best friend." I take his arm. "You should see the bookshelves I have in my room. They're huge and they're completely filled with books."

We hurry over to the classic literature section. Denki browses through a few authors, but I'm caught up in the Oscar Wilde selection.

"Is that Iida?" Denki nudges my side.
