"Cooke? What are you doing here?" Midnight asks as she pours herself a cup of coffee. "You're supposed to be-"
"The USJ is being attacked! We need help!" I speak loud enough that everyone else turns their head to us. "Something about the League of Villains and Thirteen is really hurt and-"
"Say no more." Midnight sets her coffee down. Every other teacher jumps up, rushing to our aid.
As we run to the gate, Nezu's voice comes on over the intercom, telling all available teachers to meet at the gate. I spot Tenya running down the hall as well.
Cars are already lined up outside, ready to take us to the USJ. Midnight ushers Tenya and I into a car with her and Cementoss. Present Mic is at the wheel. Worry like I've never seen crosses his face and I think I hear him whisper a silent plea for Aizawa's safety. Since I'm so small compared to everyone else, I take the middle seat in the back, squished between Tenya and Cementoss. We all buckle up and Mic takes off.
I look over at Tenya, who is repeatedly clenching and unclenching his fists at his sides. My own hands are shaking, so I grab one of his to keep us both stable. He gives my hand a grateful squeeze.
"Hizashi, I'm sure he's fine." Midnight says to Mic, who looks like he's fighting back tears. "Shota's a pain in the ass, we're not getting rid of him this easily."
Mic just nods.
The rest of the ride is silent. Tenya and I keep a death grip on each other's hands. Somehow this feels longer than the bus ride. The USJ comes into view. The car stops. Still holding onto me, Tenya yanks me out of the car. We manage to get an entrance pried open for the teachers to rush through. Snipe goes in first, then Midnight and Mic, then everyone else. It's torture on my muscles to keep these doors open, but I have to push through it. A gunshot sounds. That must be Snipe. I hope it's Snipe. Once all of the teachers are through, Tenya pushes me in, squeezing in at the last second before the doors slam shut.
"Your class rep has returned!" Tenya calls to our classmates. "I fulfilled my duty!"
"And we've brought reinforcements!" I add.
The teachers rush into action.
"Let's get to our classmates." Tenya takes my hand and we run to the group at the entrance.
"Jade!" Ashido runs to me. We catch each other and she cries into me. "Mr. Aizawa and All Might are really hurt!"
My heart sinks. Shit. What if we weren't fast enough? I blink back tears. I can't cry. Not yet. Shoji holds Aizawa over his back. His elbow looks terrible, and so does the rest of him. He's all red and inflamed. I rush over to him.
"Mr. Aizawa, can you hear me?" I ask.
He makes a small noise that I assume means yes.
"I'm going to make you some ice packs, okay? Just to keep the swelling down." I carefully take his capture scarf off, hoping to use some of that fabric to keep the snow from directly touching his wounds. Shoji helps me move him to rest in my lap on the ground so I can wipe the blood from his face. I need to keep the bleeding down on his elbow too. I take off my belt, wrapping it around the top of his elbow as a tourniquet. It's not perfect, but it works.
He winces as I rip off a corner of his scarf and gently wipe away the blood falling into his eyes. The scarf immediately turns red, and I've barely even touched him. There's so much, but I need to clear his face before I try to put any sort of compress on him. I keep tearing his scarf and keep wiping. I can't even tell where the cuts are. Still, I manage to clean him up enough to find a general area to apply an ice pack.
I quickly make a snowball, hardening it so it doesn't melt quite as fast and wrap it in his scarf. "This might hurt for a bit, and it's going to be really cold." I warn him before gently pressing it to his skin.
He inhales sharply. Keeping the pressure applied, I carefully lift his arm so I can look at his elbow. Some snow might help the surrounding area, but the muscle is exposed. I don't want to cause extra damage. The tourniquet is helping. I still have some capture scarf left, maybe I can do something with that? With only one hand, I wrap the rest of the capture scarf around the exposed area as tightly as I can without hurting him further. At least he has some padding this way.
"That's all I can do right now, Mr. Aizawa." I say as I move his injured arm across his chest. I make my hand as cold as I can and hover it above his makeshift bandages to provide some relief. I have no more hands, this is all I can do. "I'm sorry."
The rest of the teachers take care of the villains with little trouble. Almost as soon as we arrived, the battle is over. I return Aizawa to Shoji, making sure the ice pack doesn't slip. Our poor teacher is almost entirely unconscious.
Tenya puts a hand on my shoulder. He doesn't have to say anything. Neither do I. I lace our fingers together and we stare out at the scene before us. What happened while we were gone? Our classmates, are they okay?
The teachers split up to get our friends. My knees feel like they're about to buckle, all the nerves flooding into me. I tighten my grip on Tenya's hand and force myself to stand upright. I feel like I might throw up.
The teachers round up all of our classmates and take us out to the buses waiting for us. Fortunately, it looks like everyone is okay, though we're still missing Midoriya. Aizawa is taken into an ambulance as soon as we exit.
"Jade!" Denki runs to me, Kiri and Ojiro in tow. I break free from Tenya and run to my other friends. The four of us crash into each other in a big group hug.
"I was so scared!" I finally allow myself to cry, sinking into Ojiro's shoulder. "I didn't know if we were gonna make it in time and- and-"
"There were so many villains!" Denki holds onto my sleeve. "One guy took me hostage and-"
We hold onto each other for a minute or two before I feel a hand on my back.
"It's time to load the bus." Tenya says softly.
I nod, breaking away from my friends and wiping the tears from my cheeks.
The bus is loaded quickly and quietly.
"You can sit with your friends." Tenya says as I sit next to him.
"You're my friend too." I reach over and grab his hand, just like I did in the car and as we took in what happened without us. Seems this is our way of comforting each other.
The bus ride is spent in silence. After how lively we were on the ride here, it's like a knife to the chest to hear only sighs and sniffles from my classmates trying to hold in their tears.
My parents are waiting at the gate to pick me up.
"Jade!" Mom runs to me. "You've got blood on you, are you alright?"
"I'm fine, Mom." I glance at Aizawa's blood covering my sleeves and pants. "It's not mine, it's Mr. Aizawa's. He got hurt, I was just trying to make some ice packs and stem the bleeding. I wasn't even in the fight. Tenya and I went to go get the teachers."
Midnight tells me to change out and grab my things, then I'm free to go home. The school will clean and repair costumes, free of charge.
I nod and do as she says, running to catch up with the rest of my class.
