Stain Aftermath

My heart pounds in my ears as I walk through the streets toward Tenya's house. I want to run, I want to sprint as fast as I can to see him as soon as possible. Forcing myself to walk is hell.

I approach their gate and take a deep breath, smoothing out my skirt. I didn't want to put too much effort into my outfit, so I just wore a hoodie and a tennis skirt and left my hair down. It's cute, sure, but it was a two second decision before I left the house.

I ring the doorbell. Tane's voice comes over the intercom.

"Jade! Come on inside!" She chirps.

When I knock on the door, Tane opens it and pulls me into a hug.

"Oh! Hello!" I'm frozen for a moment, unsure of what to do. I return the embrace.

"Sorry, it's just ... you're so good to Tenya. He told us that you came to see him after he was attacked." She lets me go.

"I needed to be sure he was okay."

"We appreciate that. More than you know. And he's been so excited about you coming over." Tane says. "He doesn't want to admit it, but you're probably his favorite person next to his brother."

I blush. "That's too high of praise."

"I don't think so. He's in his room right now. I'll have dinner brought up as soon as it's ready."

"Thank you, Tane." I slip my shoes off and head upstairs to see Tenya.

Surprisingly, I find his room with relative ease. Guess his house isn't quite as formidable as I thought.

I knock lightly on the door. "Tenya? Can I come in?"

"Yes, of course!" He calls back. Tane was right. He sounds ecstatic.

I open his door and set my bag on the floor next to it.

"Hey!" I sit at the foot of his bed. "How are you feeling? How are your arms?"

"I'm much better now that you're here." Tenya smiles, pulling himself up to a sitting position.

"You're such a fucking flirt." I can't help but grin.

"Only for you. Come up here." He nods to the space beside him. I scoot up there. "There. Now I can see your beautiful face. Right up close."

"Tenya ..." I blush, "you're embarrassing me."

"Why would you be embarrassed by your own beauty?"

"I don't know." I shrug. "I've never had someone compliment me like this before."

"I'm glad to be the first."

I reach over and touch his cheek. "You want to talk about beauty, let's talk about who I've got in front of me."

It's his turn to flush. "I don't know what you mean."

"I mean you. You're beautiful, Tenya."

"I don't know if I'd go that far ..."

"I would. They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Well, I'm beholding it."

He leans into my hand.

"Mr. Iida?" Mrs. Tanaka calls through the door. "I have your dinner ready!"

"Come in, please." Tenya says. I pull my hand back.

She comes in with a tray of dishes.

"I'll help you." I jump up to take the plates from her and set them aside. "Thank you for bringing us our food, Mrs. Tanaka."
