Look, normally taking a book home was a good thing for the girl but, there was just something to different and off about the book. Especially the symbol, she couldn't stop looking at it and admiring it. She didn't dare say anything in front of the other girls.

But, she so wished that the story Mrs. Deauville told them was true. Yes, she had friends and everything she could have wanted but, it just felt so wrong. Maddy longed for more. She wanted an adventure and to be able to leave.

So it would be that night that she walked to the village wishing tree and make a wish. She had to wait for Agatha and Sophie to leave it as well so they didn't try to question her as she said in the bookshop that she was joking.

So late at night once her family had gone to bed, as well as the rest of the village, Maddy snuck out of her house and walked to the wishing tree. Nobody knew if it granted your wishes or whether it was just make-believe.

Well, regardless of whatever anybody thought about it, Maddy was going to make her wish. She walked up to the tree and looked at all of the things that had been carved in it. Mainly stuff with Agatha and Sophie but still a lot of carved symbols.

She leant on her knees and put her hands together. She closed her eyes and took a deep breathe before speaking.
"I know that I am asking for a lot right now but, please let this school be real. I can't handle being in this village anymore." She took another shaky breathe before she started talking again.

"I understand that I have friends and people around me, but I don't want to live in a house where my family hates me. I know I'm not good, or evil, but I'm just asking for this chance. Please." She finished and opened her eyes, tears starting to spill from her eyes.

With that, Maddison stood back up, wiped her tears away and began walking away from the tree, but when she got just far enough away from the tree that she couldn't see it anymore, she heard footsteps coming towards her.

Maddy's eyes went wide and quickly hid behind a bush getting ready to attack in case it something dangerous. Instead, she saw Sophie sneakily walking up to the tree with a note in her hand.

the girl decided to follow her and see what she was doing. Making sure to stay a safe distance away so she wasn't heard. Once Sophie made it to the tree and looked around her to make sure nobody saw her. Maddy quickly ducked her head down and only looked back up when she knew Sophie wasn't looking in her direction.

Sophie held the piece of paper to her chest and closed her eyes.
"Please be real." She asked the wishing tree and put the letter in a crack in the bark of the tree. So she did lie to Agatha. Maddy thought and looked away for a split second before trying to walk away quietly and quickly.

But her plan failed and Sophie walked out right behind her.
"Maddy? What are you doing out here?" Sophie asked and looked almost mad with the girl, but she wasn't actually. She just didn't want to be caught.

"What are you doing out here? Shouldn't you be in bed? Your parents are gonna flip if they wake up and you aren't there." Maddy replied, trying desperately not to answer Sophie's question. She didn't want to be laughed at or made fun of, even if that was something that she knew Sophie would never do.

"You can't tell Agatha okay? She'd hate me for the rest of my life if she found out." Sophie sounded defeated and suggested that the two of them sit at the tree to talk about it. Sophie walked ahead and Maddy was questioning everything in her life about what was going on right now.

They sat down at the bottom of the tree, next to each other and Sophie looked at Maddy before taking a deep breathe and began to talk.
"I wished that the school was real. It sounds like the prefect place for me, I mean, I know that I'm destined to change the world, so this must be how. I just, didn't wanna Tell Aggie because, she has nobody but her mother and me."

Sophie just blurted everything out.
"And, some drunk dude tried to kill her this morning because she's a 'witch'. I don't wanna think about what would happen if I were to be gone from here." Sophie looked over at Maddy with a sad look and took another breathe.

"Alright, I've confessed, it's your turn now." Sophie's entire demeaner changed because she was talking about something other than leaving her best friend.
"I-i, the same reason as you. I mean I love it here, but my family hates me and I have no real friends. Other than you and Agatha, but I never want to intrude, so I'm mostly by myself. I just feel like, if it were real, and I got to go, then maybe I could start over and have a good life."

Hearing herself say it out loud made Maddy realize that her story was quite sad.
"Plus, I didn't think you were gonna be here. And I kinda wanted to see what you were doing." She said quieter and later on.

"Its okay Maddy, I sat and watched you wish to the tree aswell." Sophie said and that made both the girls grin, and begin to laugh.
"Thanks for not thinking I was weird or an outcast. It's nice to know that there are some decent people in Gavaldon." Sophie referenced back to something she had said earlier that day, that Maddy had no idea about.

"How about we get out of here? I'll talk to you tomorrow? And if you want to, you can hang with Aggie and I?" Sophie stood up and held out her hand to help the other girl. She grabbed it and dusted herself off before responding.

"Oh no, I wouldn't want to intrude." Maddy said and brushed her offer away. She didn't really know what it was like to have friends or hang out with people.
"Nonsense! Aggie tells me all the time we should hang out with you but whenever we try to, you always disappear. So, hang out with us at school tomorrow."

Sophie had the final say as she walked off towards her house.
"And if you don't I'm going to barge into your house and take you myself!" She slightly yelled before disappearing towards the village.

"What just happened?" Maddy asked herself as she walked away from the tree and towards her own house. She just kept thinking about the offer and whether she should take it or not. She got so lost in her thoughts that Maddy ended up back at her window in no time. She slowly opened it, and crept through the small gap, before closing it again.

Maddy got changed out of her day clothes and into some pyjamas, and laid in bed. She had so many thoughts going around in her head that it was hard for her to fall asleep. Eventually she managed to but not without dreaming of a stranger that she had never met before. A quite handsome stranger.

And little did she know, that he was having the exact same dream, but he was way more freaked out than she was about it.
