Despite all we were going through, I wanted to do something for Hallie to make her happy.

I knew that she was very upset about having to let go of her basement space. She had truly made it her own, and she said that her parents would now most likely turn it into an at home gym, like they always wanted to.

Hallie called her job at the daycare and told them that she suddenly had to move an hour away and that she wouldn't be able to continue employment there. They asked her if she could come in for one more shift that day- but a small silver lining in all that was happening- they also told her that they could transfer her to another location of the daycare they had, closer to where she was now going to be living.

That was a relief. I knew that Hallie was very nervous at the thought of having to find another place to work, since that was always tough for her.

Felix was more than happy to let Hallie use some of his gaming consoles. However, I wanted to take things a step further for her.

So I called him while he was at work with a question.

"Can I transform the guest room into a gaming space for Hallie? It won't be that way forever, I promise. I just want to make her feel more at home."

"That's not a problem." Felix said, "You're more than welcome to do that. The guest bedroom is mainly only used for Cora's sister, and she would love a space like that."

"Thank you so much." I said to Felix, "I really appreciate it. I am going to go to Target today and do some shopping."

"That's really nice of you, Alina." Felix said, "I have to go back to work in a moment, but can I ask one question?"

"Go ahead." I said, holding my breath.

"Are Hallie's parents very strict and conservative? I understand a parent being upset about their child posting nudity on the internet, but she is a 21-year-old adult. She can do what she wants. Their reaction seems a little bit extreme." Felix said.

"Anything that isn't the so-called traditional way of life, they look down upon." I said, "It's surprising that they even accepted Hallie's sexuality, even though I know they would've preferred for her to be with a man."

"I see." Felix said, "I hope that for Hallie's sake they come around. It's not easy to be completely estranged from your parents, we both know this. I feel like it is something that can be worked on in the future once everything settles down."

"You may be right." I said, "We will just have to see what happens. Regardless, thank you for letting Hallie live here."

"I like having people in the house." Felix said, "Growing up was very lonely. It makes me happy to not have a house like the one we grew up in."

For a moment I was brought back to my childhood, and the tense atmosphere we were brought up in. I constantly felt like I had to walk on eggshells until the day I moved out. And then that continued with Jocelyn.

"Me too." I said to Felix, before we hung up.

I drove over to Target and started shopping for the guest space for Hallie. I had a few hours to put everything together, and I figured that would be enough time.

I walked up and down the aisles of the store, grabbing different things to put in my cart that I figured Hallie would like. I didn't want the room to be an exact replica of the basement, I wanted it to be a new space for her- but I also wanted it to be to her liking.

I bought a few hundred dollars' worth of items. I then packed it up in my car and headed back to the house. When I got home, Cora was done with work for the day. She joined me in the guest room.
