I sat at the same table that I did when I first got to the strip club until 2 AM. That's when Hallie was finished with her shift.
She kept catching my eye and giving me small smiles during the rest of her shift. I hated it as I watched men roam their eyes on her body.
At 2 AM a woman who was the only one in club that wasn't half nude or fully nude walked up to Hallie. I saw her speak to Hallie for a moment, and then Hallie nodded and started making her way over to me.
"I can leave now." she said, "Let me just go grab my things and then we can head out. Thank you so much for staying, Alina. It made me feel better."
"Of course." I said.
Hallie emerged a few moments later with a duffle bag and a gray hoodie on. I immediately recognized the hoodie- it was mine. Well, Hallie and I would share clothes all the time, as many do in a lesbian relationship.
"Nice hoodie." I said- in a tone that showed her I liked that she was wearing it.
Hallie smiled bashfully. "I wear it sometimes. It makes me feel safe."
I smiled back at Hallie. She then said, "Let's get out of here. I can't stand being in this place for another second."
Hallie and I walked out together, and I could immediately see her relax more.
"Can you leave your car here overnight?" I asked Hallie.
"I don't think it would be a problem." Hallie said, "There are people here until 6 AM."
"Good." I said, "Come back with me?"
Hallie grinned and nodded. "Of course."
Hallie and I got into my car, and I looked at her.
"I've missed having you next to me while I drive." I said to her.
"I've just missed you." Hallie said.
I started driving and then I realized- Hallie must be hungry.
"When was the last time you ate?" I asked Hallie.
"Oh, gosh. It's been hours." Hallie said, "I ate a granola bar on the way to work."
"We're stopping and getting you food." I said.
I stopped at a convenience store close to my house and Hallie and I walked in. We got a bunch of snacks- from chips to pretzels to candy- and then I drove us back to the house.
Hallie and I were quiet as we walked up to the bedroom. When I shut the door, she sat on the bed. She looked exhausted.
"I've really missed this bed." she said, looking at me.
"I know." I said, sitting down next to her. I looked at her and tucked a lock of her hair behind her ear. She smiled at me.
"You must be really tired." I said.
"Exhausted." Hallie admitted, "Staying up and playing video games is one thing, serving vile men drinks is another. I'm very tempted to just sleep in my makeup."
"No, no." I said, "I'll take your makeup off for you."
I walked over to the dresser and pulled out a pack of makeup wipes.
"Close your eyes." I said to Hallie, and started gently removing her makeup.
She cracked a smile, "I remember the last time you did this for me. When I had a breakdown about getting lost on the way to your house the first time we hung out."
I chuckled, "How could I forget?"
After I finished taking off Hallie's makeup, I changed out of my outfit I wore into something more comfortable. I saw her watching me as I undressed.
"Like what you see?" I said.
"Sorry!" she said, "If you don't want me to look."
"Please." I laughed, "It's not like you haven't seen me naked. And I know you will again."
I then sat down on the bed next to Hallie again.
She looked down and then said, "Why did you come tonight?"
"I needed to see you." I said, "I've missed you. And I wanted us to talk. I also didn't really like the thought of you working in a strip club."
"I really needed some extra money." Hallie said, "I hate that I'm working there too. It's miserable."
"You're not going to have to anymore." I said, "I...want to work things out. I'm sorry I thought that I would be better off figuring things out by myself. Sending you a couple texts every day is not enough, I want to try to go back to how we were. If that's possible."
"I know it's possible." Hallie said, "I want us to be together again. More than anything. But I also want you to be feeling okay."
"I'm better." I said, "Still working on things. But better."
"You haven't seen a therapist though, right?"
I looked at Hallie and said, "I'll make an appointment. Tomorrow."
"Okay." Hallie nodded, "I can help."
I then closed my eyes and said, "How was living with Chloe?"
I really hope nothing happened.
"I was grateful to have a roof over my head- but it was annoying." Hallie said, "She actually wasn't there too much. She was always out with someone. I spent a lot of my time alone. I also took the job at the club because I could never sleep."
"She didn't try anything?" I asked. I had to ask.
"I wish I could say she didn't." Hallie said, "This was a week or so after I showed up. She had gone out with someone and I guess she was expecting to get laid and she didn't. She was pretty drunk. I was in the kitchen making some tea and she came up to me and started making comments about me spending the night in her bed."
I felt myself seething. Not at Hallie. "Of course she did."
"I said no, of course." Hallie said, "I then hurried off to the room I was staying in. She apologized the next morning."
"At least she had the decency to do that."
"I wanted to tell you. I immediately wanted to call you and tell you, but I didn't want to make things worse." Hallie said.
"I understand." I said, putting my hand on Hallie's.
"Thank you." she said back to me. Then she hesitated before she said, "So...what does tonight mean?"
"I would love it if you moved back in." I said, "I want to make things work."
Hallie nodded, "Of course I'll move back in. Would Felix and Cora be okay with it?"
"More than okay." I said, "They asked about you all the time. I could tell Felix was pissed at me when we broke up."
"I understand why you did." Hallie said, "But I just hope that from now on you'll want me to help you through these things."
"I will." I said, "I promise."
As much as I wanted Hallie more- I knew that she was tired.
We laid down next to each other in bed. I put my arm around her and she leaned against me. Not even 5 minutes later, she was sleeping.
She was back where she belonged.
