Part 35

A/N- For the next upcoming parts, anything having to do with the law, lawyers, and trials are completely based off research I have done myself. I am not a lawyer, nor do I work in law enforcement in real life (I work in healthcare) so if some of this sounds far-fetched please don't mind! Thank you as always for reading ❤️

I waited in the bedroom for Hallie to get home from work, with the pastries that I had gotten from The Alcove.

I had to hold myself back from eating more of the macarons, they were that damn good.

When Hallie got home and came up to the bedroom, she looked tired. She took off the hoodie that she was wearing and before she put on a shirt and was just in her sports bra, I got up and hugged her.

"You look tired." I said, "Beautiful, of course. But tired."

She gave me a small smile. "I am tired. Still just getting used to my new life can be tiring. But I wouldn't have it any other way."

She then eyed the treats on the bed. "Did you go to The Alcove?"

"I did." I said, "I got some coffee and wanted to get you treats. I would've gotten you coffee too but it would be cold. I can get you some later, we can go back out."

"That's very kind of you." Hallie said, "I'm just going to put on a shirt and I'll come sit and eat."

"I don't mind you without a shirt...not one bit." I said.

Hallie smiled, "I'm pretty cold. You can probably see my nipples through my sports bra as well from that."

"Also something I don't mind."

Hallie then laughed, "I love you. But I'm sorry, I'm putting on a shirt."

Hallie slipped on a long sleeved pullover and sat on the bed. She then said to me, "It's funny that you went to The Alcove today of all days. Chloe was telling me that Gray works there now- and that they broke up."

"Speaking of that- I saw Gray there. We talked for a little bit." I said, taking out an Earl Grey and Vanilla macaron and handing it to Hallie.

"Did they mention the break up?" Hallie asked me, biting into the macaron. Her green eyes widened, "Oh wow. This is fucking amazing."

"Yes." I said, "They did. Gray told me they broke up with Chloe. They said that they felt she wasn't taking their relationship seriously, and that she wasn't ready to settle down. And that they couldn't handle Chloe's flirty personality."

"That matches up to what Chloe told me- though she didn't say the part about the flirty personality. She also told me she basically accused Gray of cheating on her." Hallie nodded.

"That's what Gray said as well."

Hallie looked at me. "Chloe seemed upset. But she strikes me as the type that will try to move on quickly."

"She better keep her claws out of you." I said, in a joking tone- even though on the inside I meant it.

"You have nothing to worry about." Hallie said in a reassuring tone. "You never have, and you never will."

I was about to thank Hallie for the reassurance when my phone started vibrating. I felt my stomach drop when I saw that it was Officer Rodriguez.

"Hello, Officer Rodriguez." I said. Hallie looked at me as I spoke.

"Alina, good evening. How are you and Hallie doing?" she said back.

"We are doing okay." I said, "Thank you for asking. I hope you're well."

"I am, thank you." Officer Rodriguez said, "I wanted to let you know that Mr. Turner wants to try to settle this out of court, with his lawyer. You have a lawyer as well, correct?"

"Yes." I said, "We do."

Felix had helped Hallie and I find a lawyer for when the time came for this.

I'm really going to have to see this fucker. And the Turner family, most likely.

"The tentative date for the settlement for the case is going to be March 10th. I will let you know if anything changes, and all of the details. I just wanted to make you and Hallie aware."

"Does this mean...I'm going to have to talk to Ryan? And sit in the same room with him?" I asked Officer Rodriguez.

"Not necessarily." she said, "We can absolutely try to make it so that you don't and it is just your lawyer."

"I would prefer that." I said, my heart pounding, "I'd prefer it very much."

"We will try to see to it that it happens that way."
Officer Rodriguez said, "I will let you know more details very soon. Have a good night."

"You too. Thanks." I said.

I set my phone done on the bed and closed my eyes and took a deep breath. When I opened them, Hallie was placing her hand on mine.

"We will make sure you don't have to see him."
Hallie said, "Even if that means I just have to be in the room with the lawyer. I'll do whatever I possibly can to make sure you you don't have to see him. It's not happening."

"Even just the thought of you being in the room with that sick fuck makes me furious." I said.

Hallie nodded, "I know. But I want to make sure you're okay most of all. I'm...worried. About you."

I looked at Hallie. "Why are you worried?"

"I don't want this to set you back, or make you go back to a really dark place." Hallie said, "You don't deserve that, at all. I want to be able to move past this and for us to come out stronger."

"I'm going to make sure this doesn't set me back." I said, "I'm not going to let it."

"It's okay if it does though. It's only natural. I just want you to be okay in the end of it all."

"I will be." I said, "I have too much to lose. But most of all, too much to look forward to."

"We do have a lot to look forward to." Hallie smiled at me, "I still hope that soon enough we can get our own apartment."

I nodded, "Absolutely. And...I've decided that I'm really going to try to figure out what I want to do with my future. Whether that be go back to school or even just look for a different job. I knew that this Phlebotomy job was going not be permanent, it was just to get me back on my feet."

"Maybe I can try to get another job too." Hallie said, "Something to bring in more money. Or I can look at going back to school. The thought of it makes me a bit terrified, but I want to do it."

"We will figure it all out." I said, "Who knows. Maybe I'll work in a lab, using my biology degree, figure out a new scientific discovery, get rich, and then I can just be your sugar mama."

Hallie laughed, "Hey, at least you can't say that I only loved you for your money."

I turned to Hallie and smiled, "No way."

She then put her hand on my waist, pulled me in and kissed me.

When we pulled away, we smiled at each other.

It's going to be okay.
