March 9th approached- the night before the case settlement (A/N: I made a couple of edits- making sure to include that Ryan got charged instead of arrested.) - and I was nervous.
I was not going to have to be in the room. Hallie was going to be in the room for only one part of the settlement- and I felt terrible that she was going to have to do that. However, she was more than willing. Most of the time it was going to be our lawyer, David.
I was terrified that I would see the Turner family- I didn't want to see a single one of them. I was reassured that whoever came with Ryan would not be in the same area as me. I was still extremely apprehensive though.
Seeing Tori Banner was something that still got to me, and that I thought about. However, seeing the Turner family was on another level to me. I knew they hated me- I wasn't even allowed at Jocelyn's funeral. I had no contact with them since Jocelyn's death. I didn't have much contact with them even when Jocelyn and I were married. However, I knew they were close with Tori- and she would feed them information.
I had worked the night prior to the 9th, and then had off of work for a few days. I slept during the day, and then woke up at around 2 PM. Hallie didn't have work that day, and she slept until around 11 AM.
When I got up, we decided to do some grocery shopping for the house- and when we got back, Cora was home from work.
"Thank you so much for replenishing some of these groceries." she said as Hallie and I put the food away, "You know you don't have to do that, right?"
"It's the least we can do." I said, giving Cora a smile. She was now close to 4 months pregnant, and was starting to show slightly. She was going to find out within the next few weeks what gender the baby- my future niece or nephew- was going to be.
"Well, Felix and I wanted to do something for you two as well." Cora said, reaching into her purse. She pulled out two gift cards. She then said, "This is for you two to get your nails done and to go out to dinner tonight- anywhere you want."
"You did not have to do that." Hallie said, "Thank you so much."
"Yes, thank you." I said, "You and Felix are the best."
Cora walked over and pulled in both Hallie and I for a hug. "I love you, ladies. You've both had it rough- for the past couple of months, and in general. No matter what, you've got Felix and I on your side. Now go have fun tonight. You both deserve it."
Hallie and I quickly got changed and then I drove us to the nail salon. It was where Cora and her sister went to go get their nails done, a spa called Serenity near our house.
"I've never gotten my nails done." Hallie said to me, "You know I paint my nails pink sometimes. But it peels off after about a day."
"I've only gotten a manicure and pedicure one time. With my sister. She took us to get our nails done before my first day of high school." I said.
Hallie put her hand on my knee and gave it a slight squeeze. "I'm glad that we can do this together. You can make a new memory."
Hallie and I got to the salon and we each chose a gel polish color.
"I can't decide between dark red and nude." I said to Hallie, who had chosen lavender.
Hallie looked at the two colors. "I like dark red. I think that would look really pretty."
"That settles it." I said.
Hallie and I were separated across the salon to get our nails done.
"This is a pretty color." the nail technician said to me, holding the bottle. "Would you like to get acrylics today too?"
