Your first shot doesn't fire. It turns out, that in Gojo's very important explanation you missed the fact that the crossbow's safety was on.

You groan and attempt to pick up the fallen bits of your confidence off the floor.

The curse squeals, almost like it's laughing at you.

"Yeah, yeah, yeah, give me a minute," you say.

You feel around the crossbow until you find a switch at the side. You press it forward until you hear it click, and raise the weapon once again.

Now that you've lost that spur of the moment rush your left brain kicks into full gear. Where should you aim? The head? The heart? Does it even have a heart? What if you miss? Is there a rule that says you're kicked out of school if you fail your first mission?

Your shaking hands make it hard to focus on any one point, not to mention the fact that the curse keeps moving. "Hey, can you please stand still?"

The curse stops bouncing and looks at you quizzically.

Your hand falters at the action.

It's like...it can understand you?

You look at his eyes through the scope. It's as you thought. His eyes aren't dull and lifeless, rather, there is something glinting in them. Something you can just about grasp.

You put down the crossbow.

"Hey pretty boy, you're just scared, right?" you say, attempting to sound as amiable as possible. "It's a cold, lonely world, people labeled you a curse and haven't been very nice to you since."

You approach the creature slowly, kneeling until you are at eye level.

"Trust me, I know I may look like a very happy person, but people haven't been that nice to me either. I think that's why I smile even more now. Because that's what you have to do." You smile. "All you want is a friend right? Someone to understand you? Someone to accept you for who you are..." You hold out your hand to the curse.

He looks at it curiously, then back up to you.

This is working... you are getting through to him. A newfound joy comes to your cheeks. The future of your journey here brightening as you realize you may have broken the surface of something yet untapped.

"So what do you say," you continue, "Why don't we be frien–"

A chunk of wood smacks you right in the middle of your forehead.

The room spins as you fall backward.

Blood trails down your face. A subtle throbbing begins in your temple.

The curse laughs viciously, congratulating itself on its perfect aim. You swear you can even hear it taunting your name.

You shake your head and blink until the room comes back into focus.

"You... you tricked me!? But... I was being so nice to you!!!" Humiliation and delirium swirl in your stomach. "You little shit! I was giving you a cha–" Another chunk of wood whirls past your head, this time you dodge it, but just barely.

"That's it!" you growl. You scuttle over to the discarded crossbow. "If that's your choice then fine, but this is mine."

You run over to the curse with the crossbow in hand.

The curse squeals and darts from you, but you don't let him escape.

Passion pumps through your legs, and you close the distance fast.
