"Should you really be sleeping right now?"
The voice comes out of a distant place.
Your consciousness scrambles. For a moment you don't remember who you are, what you're doing, who it is talking to you. All is dark around you.
"Well, it's not my place to butt in, but..."
"What is this? Where am I?" you say.
The minute the words come out of your mouth, things begin to come into focus.
You find yourself standing in the middle of a misty landscape, with nothing to see for miles except for the man in black robes that lies amongst the clouds, twirling his fingers in a makeshift pond.
"Kiyomo," you say. "How did I get here?"
He looks up from his position in the clouds. "Isn't that obvious?" he says. "You fell asleep."
"Fell... asleep?" You try to think of what happened before this. The last thing you remember, Gojo was teleporting you away.
Kiyomo sighs. "It appears all your attempts to avoid me backfired. You fell asleep as soon as your head touched the ground."
"Oh..." You look around the dreamscape. Though the trees and waterfall are gone, the feeling of mysticism is unmistakable.
That's right, you were trying to avoid this place. The last time you were here...
"You..." you clench your fists at your side. "Because of you... I almost..."
"Hush, hush now," Kiyomo says, waving his hand. "You're the one who wanted to learn. As it stands, I am a hands-on teacher."
"Great," you say. "Now how do I get your hands off?"
"Oh my, is this how you speak to your elders? If you're so keen on getting rid of me, why don't you ask that eccentric boyfriend of yours? Oh, that's right, you haven't told him about me yet."
You clench your fists tighter. "How do you know about Gojo? Have you been spying on me?"
Kiyomo smirks. "Have you forgotten? I am one with the afterlife now. We are less bound by worldly restrictions. Though, I wouldn't call it spying. More like... checking in."
You frown. The thought of Kiyomo 'checking in on you' is certainly not pleasant.
"Gojo, is it?" he muses. "I can see why you would get so defensive. He has the most wonderful heart that. So pure, despite his intrinsically twisted nature. It reminds me of a very good friend of mine, before that man became a curse..."
"Stop. Stop it," you say. "If you even think about touching Gojo I'll..."
"You'll what?"
"I'll..." You huff. You can't think of an appropriate response.
Kiyomo chuckles. "Relax, I'm not going to do anything. It's not as if I could anyway..." he sighs. "In any case, now is not the time for chit-chat. You better head back to that body of yours, that is unless you enjoy freezing in the mud."
At that, he stands up and walks toward you.
"Let me leave you with these parting words of advice," he says, "It is those hearts we are most attracted to that are most tempting to touch. But those are the only hearts we must absolutely not. If you decide to love him, you must always remember that."
"What–?"
Kiyomo taps you on the forehead with his fan.
You are instantly thrust backward through space, all talk of hearts left on the wind.
