Falling is a sensation you've gotten used to, but this. But this...
You're moving through space and time at an alarming speed, all sense of direction—all sense of sense is lost to you. All you know is that you're here—somewhere. Spinning, falling, flying. Colors flash by you, but you can't place their names, all the while you are getting further, and further away from something...something important.
A familiar sound passes by you—a voice.
You try to grasp onto it, but its ethereal form is as tangible as the wind.
"I'll be going now," it says. "Tell that man... well, never mind."
The voice disappears down the tunnel, leaving you once again alone in this boundless space.
You spin for what feels like an eternity, and then, as if you always had a destination in sight, you land, hard on your stomach.
Everything comes to a crashing halt.
You raise your head and look around. Surrounding you is a very familiar color, this time you can place the name. Red. Red all around. The walls are as indistinguishable from the floor as they are from the ceiling, but you get the feeling of being enclosed in a domelike space. Across from you, a distinct rectangular shape pops out from the floor.
You walk over to it.
A...door?
You rub your eyes. Sure enough, there it is: a plain, wooden-panelled door, shut tight.
You step in close enough to reach for the handle, but your hand pauses mid-air. What if there is something terrible on the other side? Or worse...what if there is nothing at all?
Indecision stirs in your chest. You look back toward the empty space and feel the weight of your options.
You turn back to the door. Taking a big breath, you grip onto the handle and pull.
The door doesn't move an inch.
An equal amount of fear and relief floods your body.
Just to be sure, you pull again.
Still, the door remains locked tight.
Sighing, you turn back toward the empty space.
Now that you look again, the walls seem to carry a warmth about them, almost...comforting. Like you are being wrapped in a big ruby blanket.
A sleepy, peaceful feeling overcomes you. You sink to the floor and try to remember what you were doing before you got here. Something about a finger... and a red stone...
The more you tug at the memories, the more you want to give into the protection of the red walls.
Oh well, whatever it was it doesn't matter now.
You let your memories go and allow your mind to fill with silence.
Yes, this is nice... much nicer than whatever you left behind.
Time passes, or perhaps it doesn't, but eventually, you are jolted from your reverie by a booming sound. The solidness of it hits you with shattering clarity, and for a moment you become painfully alert. A second boom responds to the first one. Your dismembered mind begins to put together form. Human voices.
Unlike the voice you heard earlier, these carry a substance to them—you can feel the bodies attached to their words. Also unlike the voice you heard earlier, these don't address you directly. They seem to come from the other side of the door. From a whole other reality separate from yours.
