Another day begins in this new life of yours. You wake up this time with a heavy heart and an odd tingling in your stomach. The memory of the uncovered treasure already seems like a distant fantasy, and you have the odd feeling that today is going to be a bitter day. On top of that, the sky is heavy with precipitation, and the landscape that is normally bright and green is now gloomy and drear. You feel like curling under your covers and snuggling in bed all day, but you soon discover that you will not be so lucky.

In a moment, you hear a somber knock on your door.

A voice you recognize as Ijichi-san's, the assistant director of Jujutsu Tech, speaks softly from behind it. "First years are needed in their uniforms immediately. Please meet at the front of the school."

"Ok!" you yell back.

It seems serious, whatever it is. The sound of Ijichi-san's voice is already a bad sign, it means that Gojo-sensei is likely away on another business trip.

You sigh and begrudgingly move out of bed. Your uniform still lays on the floor where you threw it off yesterday, and you quickly toss it on. You haven't gotten a chance to wash it yet, but for some reason, you don't feel like reaching for your spare. Besides, the rain will likely wash all the dirt off.

At the front of the school Nobara, Yuuji, Megumi, and Ijichi-san wait for you. As you expected, there is no Gojo-sensei in sight. Nobara, Yuuji, and Megumi look just as gloomy as you, and it makes you wonder if Gojo's presence really has that much of an effect. After all, Ijichi-san in his solemn, serious manner, is a stark contrast to the bubbly, snow-haired, drama king.

You are missing that drama king more than ever right now as you stand in the cold rain, waiting to see what fate has in store for you.

"Where's Gojo-sensei?" Yuuji asks.

"Away on a business trip," Megumi replies.

Your heart sighs.

Ijichi-san coughs. "Hop in," he says, "I will explain the situation in the car."

You obey, wearily. Your juniors offer you the front seat but you shake your head—these nerves in your stomach won't go away, you feel like squishing yourself between people right now.

You squeeze in the back between Megumi and Nobara.

Ijichi-san turns to you as you settle in. "[M/C], Gojo-san left this for you," he says.

Into your hands plops a familiar-looking crossbow. The good-old Wind Slicer from your first mission. You sigh, feeling a bit lighter with it in your lap. It is nice to know that Gojo-sensei thought of you, and although he said you would train in close-combat, you definitely feel a lot better using this for now.

"Now, here's the situation..."

Ijichi-san explains the basics of your mission. Something he refers to as a curse womb showed up in a juvenile detention centre earlier today, and it is now your job to go in and rescue any survivors.

As he explains it, the nerves in your stomach expand. This is the real deal; any mess-ups on your part may very well cost a human life. You will have to dive into the darkest parts of yourself to pull out all the courage you can muster. You can't say how grateful you are that your younger, but more experienced classmates are here with you. If only Gojo-sensei were here too, then you might feel completely safe.

Ijichi-san clears his throats. "[M/C], Itadori, I understand you're both fairly new to this, so do your best to keep up. Normally, we wouldn't throw you into a situation such as this so early on, but as it stands we are a bit short-handed. I'm afraid we have no other choice."
