I looked out the window not saying a word to my dad. I just did 90 days in rehab and here he goes trying to move away as soon as I get out. The only reason we're moving is because my dad wants my brother Scott and his wife Olivia to keep an eye on me.
Michael - I was really worried about you while you were there.
Evie - and you didn't come to see me.
Michael - you have to understand that it was hard seeing you like that. I want you sober.
I started using fentanyl at age 12 when my mom was diagnosed with cancer. It started out of curiosity, I saw how she would just feel relaxed after taking them so I would steal a little bit at a time. She died when I was 13 and that's when I started taking drugs heavily. At the time I was doing it , my dad and brother didn't know , not like they paid attention to me anyway, because they were grieving so much. I never really processed her death, one day she was fine and the next she was gone. I don't think she was sick when she died because they said the cancer was gone , but I guess not.
We pulled up to my brother's house. He was standing outside with Olivia.
He walked over and hugged dad.
Scott - hey dad. Hey Evie
I blankly stared at him and Olivia.
My dad nudged me.
Evie - hey y'all
We went in the house and they showed me to my room.

Evie - it's okay.
Olivia - me and your brother got you transferred into a new school already and you have to go to a 12 - step program on the weekends.
Evie - I just got out of rehab.
Olivia - and me and your brother both know that almost dying won't stop you from using. While you were in rehab we went in your room.
Evie - that's why I couldn't find my stuff.
Olivia - yes. Girl you must want a death wish. Morphine needles and fentanyl.
Evie - Olivia you don't get to parent me. I have a dad for that and I'm fine.
