I walked into my dad's room and saw him sleeping
Evie - dad.
He turned over and sat up.
Evie - Silas is about to take me to my meeting.
Michael - okay
I turned to walk away and he grabbed my hand.
Michael - I'm proud of you
Evie - thanks dad
Michael - I'm really sorry about the way I've been treating you. You didn't deserve it. You look and act so much like your mother and it hurt me when I saw you in the hospital because I thought about her.
Evie - do you ever think you could love anybody else?
Michael - no. She was my everything and meeting someone new , would feel like betrayal honestly. Your mother had my heart from the moment we met. There is box she made me promise to keep with your name on. I haven't opened it. She told me to give it to you when you are ready and I honestly feel you're ready now.
Evie - really?
Michael - you and your brother were everything to her.
Evie - you're gonna make me cry dad.
I hugged him.
He went in the closet and grabbed a small purple trunk out the closet.
Evie - I'll get Silas to carry it to the car.
Michael - you really like that boy , don't you?
Evie - a lot.
Michael - are y'all dating?
Evie - he hasn't asked to be my boyfriend yet dad and it's frustrating.
Michael - y'all was never together but you're having a baby
Evie - backwards I know.
Michael - not really. Me and your mom did that with your brother. Had him first and then decided to get married when he was about 3 or 4. Your grandparents hated me for getting her pregnant
Evie - do you hate Silas?
Michael - no, Y'all need each other in a way. That boy has been through a lot.
Evie - how you know
Michael - He has my number and we talk. He and the little one call me. Especially his sister.
The door bell rang. It went to the door to see Silas and Sy'Rai
My dad dragged the trunk to the door and Silas grabbed it
Silas - hey Mr. Rinaldi
Michael - hey
Sy'Rai- hey dad
She hugged my dad.
Michael - hey Rai

After my meeting , we made it home and Silas took my trunk to his room.
Silas - what? You looking at me
Evie - you talk to my dad.
Silas - I just ask advice on fatherhood. I'm about to be a dad in a few months.
Evie - I think you'll be a great dad. Just look at how you are with Sy'Rai. I find it cute that she calls him dad.
Silas - he told me that Rai reminds him of you when you were younger.
