I held Evie's hand as we waited on the doctor.
Evie - are you nervous?
Silas - yeah.
Evie - I may want a epidural when the time comes to have the baby.
Silas - you know most epidural contain fentanyl , it's only a little bit but are you comfortable -
Evie - no. I'll just substitute that for something else and make sure the doctors know.
Silas - you've been doing good so far babe
Evie - how does Sy'Rai feel about the baby?
Silas - I don't know. I told her and she seemed indifferent at the time.
Evie - you're basically her father. Is she the reason you want a daughter.
Silas - yeah. I've had to learn a lot by just doing for her. I learned to do her hair and everything.

I smiled as I saw the baby on the screen.
Nurse - you wanna hear the heartbeat
Evie - yes
My eyes watered as I heard the baby's heartbeat.
Evie squeezed my hand
Nurse - baby's heart beat is really strong
Evie smiled at me.
The nurse handed me some tissue.
Nurse - first time dad?
Silas - you can tell.
Nurse - I get it though. I get emotional with my patients too. If you want we can put it in a little teddy bear that way you can always hear their heart beat.
Silas - okay . I want the bear.

I looked at Silas as he sat the bear on the bed.
Evie - I don't know if you're aware but the bear is for me too.
Silas - this mine. You got the real thing inside you.
Evie - that bear is going in the baby's room.
Silas - no.
The door bell rang . I went to the door to see Scott and Khalil. I hugged Khalil.
Evie - booger
Khalil - hey Peanut
He hugged me back.
Scott - where's Si?
Evie - obsessing over the ultrasound heartbeat. We had it put in a teddy bear and it's all he's been listening to in the last 30 minutes.
Khalil - that's weird
Evie - not too much on him though. Watch it.
Scott - alright Evie. You coming home tonight right?
Evie - unfortunately.
Scott - alright. Khalil I'll just take your stuff to our house
Khalil - alright
He left.
