CHAPTER 1

“Kenji! Tara na! —nakatunganga ka na naman diyan” Keira approaches me while she's holding the firewood that she picked up near the trees.

Tumingin ako sandali sa mga ibon na nagliliparan at saka tumayo— isinukbit ko na rin sa aking likuran ang mga kahoy na napulot ko

“Balita ko ay darating na ang mga Hunter ngayon galing sa labas— Tara bilisan mo kailangan natin silang makita” I said to her, and I pulled her hands and ran to the near side of the gate.

“Ang daming tao— sigurado akong may nahuli na naman silang halimaw” I excitedly told her while looking at the gate.

“Tara na hinahanap na tayo” She said and pulled my shirt, but I pulled myself back and stopped her.

“Sandali lang 'to gusto ko lang silang makita, balang araw gusto kong maging Hunter” I said to her, and her face was shocked.

“Hindi, p'wede!” She shouts at me, my eyes are wide open when she grabs my collar.

The bell rings, it means the hunters are back and the gate will be open.

We can see the gate starting to open.

I was too shocked when I saw the hunters riding their horses and big bikes while the corpses were on their backs.

“Kakaonti nalang ang nakabalik” Keira said while her eyes were on the hunters.

The captain of hunters has a corpse in his back while riding his big bike, and we can clearly see the sadness in his eyes.

That's Keira's brother, the captain of the hunters.

I looked at Keira. Her face has no emotion at all. She's always been like that since her mother got killed by the ferocious beast outside the walls, and her family is the top hunters here in our city.

Maraming nag iyakan— kakaonti na lamang ang nakabalik

Keira started to drag me “Hinahanap na tayo” She said while holding my shirt.

Keira's parents are no longer here. They all die, matalik na mag kaibigan ang mga magulang namin— My parents decided to adopt Keira, while her brother, the captain of hunters, is in government hands.

“Nandito na po kami” I said as we arrived at the house.

“Kumain na tayo” My mom approached us, and my father is at the table doing some of his poisoning materials to give to the hunters.

That's his job, doing poison stuff for the beast and any kind of element outside of our walls.

“Ang dami niyong dalang pang gatong- sino ang tumulong sa inyong buhatin 'to paakyat rito sa atin?” My mother asked us, with a smile on her face, waiting for the answer.

“Si Kenji lang po ang mag isang nag buhat niyan” Keira answered, Tila may gulat sa kanilang mga mata ang sagot ni Keira

“Pa'no mo' yan na buhat?” This time my father stopped what he was doing and asked me.

“Binuhat ko? —magaan lang naman po” Sagot ko at nagkatingan ang aking magulang

“M-mag hugas na muna kayo ng mga kamay para makakain na” My mother said and motioned us to the sink.

We eat silently.

“Gusto ko maging hunter” I broke the silence, and they're all looking at me.

“Hindi p'wede” Keira objected to what I've said.

“Bakit ikaw p'wede at ako hindi?” I confusedly asked and looked at my parents.

“Mas makakabuti sa'yo na nandito na lamang sa bahay natin Kenji —ang mga magulang ni Keira ay hunter mas sanay na si Keira gumalaw katulad ng kanyang mga magulang” My mother gently answered and squeezed my hand that was resting on the table.

I stood up and walked away from our house, and Kiera chased me. She just followed me without saying a word.

“Bakit ka bang laging na kasunod? Kaya ko ang sarili ko hindi naman kita kailangan” I said to her, and I pushed her.

Napadpad ako sa lawa malapit sa tarangkahan—ano kaya ang itsura sa labas?

I was lying on the grass, looking up at the sky, and using my arms as a pillow.

I decided to go home when it was already dark.

“Hindi natin p'wedeng itago nalang sa kanya Luisa, bago ko siya dalhin dito sa atin alam mong delikado na siya dito, hindi natin katulad si Kenji— napapalibutan siya ng mga Hunter dito”

Tahimik akong nakikinig sa usapan ng aking magulang ng biglang bumukas ang pinto

“Kanina kapa ba diyan anak?” gulat na tanong nila sa'kin

“Anak niyo ba talaga ako?” 'yan ang unang lumabas sa aking bibig

My parents looked at each other before answering me. “Hindi,” my mother said and cried.

That's enough for me to run completely away. I met Keira on the way.

“Saan ka pupunta,” she asked me, but I ignored her and ran. My feet brought me to the front gate.

I looked at the guards, who were just drinking in the corner of the gate. I slowly walked into the small door on the side.

“Kenji!” Keira shouted enough for the guards to hear it, I panicked and I ran out to the gate, the guards chased me, and I hide on the trees.

There were guards holding torches, and Keira was at the gate struggling to get out, but the guards wouldn't allow her to go out of the gate.

“Anong kaguluhan 'yan” Keira's brother, the captain of hunters, is walking into the gate.

“Si Kenji, nakalabas” One of the guards said, while Keira is still struggling with the guards.

“The vampires are lurking at our gate, it's dangerous to go out.” He said and he pulled Keira at the gate immediately, my mouth hanged open when I saw the vampire cut the wrist of the guard.

Keira and the other guards were stunned to move, the guard was crying and shouting of the pain.

Our gate and the walls of our city have protection from the vampires and other monsters outside the walls.

I can clearly see how the vampire licks the blood from the hands of his victim.

I was trembling while climbing up the tree.

“Anong ginawa ng isang bata sa labas ng pader” Pigil hininga ko ng bumulong sa akin ang bampira na kanina lang ay nasa baba

Nanlalamig ang kamay ko ng amuyin niya ang aking leeg “Sino ang magulang mo” He asked me and he sliced my wrist, and he licked the blood, and I was surprised to see his mouth begin to smoke.

“Half Blood” That's the last thing he said, and his body began to turn into ashes.
