Wearing his wide smile, he sat beside me.
"Sabi ko naman kasi sa'yo, I will take a leave na lang so that you have company here."
It's weekend and we are both inside a coffee shop, ang pinagkaiba nga lang ay naka-upo ako habang nakaharap sa laptop habang siya ay busy sa paggawa ng kape.
"It's fine. Napasa mo naman na ang part mo," saad ko rito nang hindi na inaalis ang tingin sa screen ng laptop.
"Even so. Mas maganda kung may kasama ka," he said in a whisper.
I looked at him to examine if I was right. He is frowning. When our eyes met, he quickly gave me a smile.
"Even so rin. May work ka," balik ko rito.
Kahapon niya pa pinagpipilitan na lumiban muna sa pasok niya sa coffee shop nung malaman niyang pupunta ako rito dahil gusto niya raw akong samahan at kahapon ko pa rin ipinipilit sa kaniya na pumasok na lang. I kind of persuade him but he is still insisting of stopping.
I was only proofreading and adding some articles to support our research so that it would be more effective. I don't need someone because I can do this alone. I also don't need a company dahil siya na lang din ang iisipin ko habang nag-aayos at nagtatype. Pag kasi may kasama ako, I felt like I needed to entertain them so that they won't get bored.
"Gusto ko lang samahan ka. I promise, kahit naman hindi mo ako kausapin. I will try not wanting your attention when you are doing something. I can behave." malumanay ang kaniyang pagsasalita habang malambot ang tingin na inilalahad para sa akin.
I gulped and tried to find the right word to say.
"You might get bored," mahina ko na lang na saad dahil kung ipipilit pa nito na sasamahan niya ako sa isa pang beses ay baka pumayag na ako.
"I will not be. Plus, you don't need to entertain me just because we are together. I like it simple when we can share and do our work together."
I look back at my hand, losing all the words that I have to push him to do his work instead of being here with me.
Iba ka, Shone. Iba 'to.
"But you said before you need to do work here on weekends." That was my last retort. Kung may idadagdag pa siya, hindi ko na alam.
"But I also said I won't do it if I have some important thing to do. Sharing the day with you would be my priority if you let me be with you."
Tila paulit-ulit hinihigit ang kaluluwa ko habang pinapakinggan ang mga salitang lumalabas sa bibig ng lalaki... and there, I lost it.
"Okay..." halos puro hangin nalang ang lumabas nang banggitin ko iyon. "If it's fine and won't affect the coffee shop, you may join me."
His eyes twinkle as the smiles blossom on his lips.
