"No! No! No!" I squeal, running from Conrad. The water feels freezing today. I'm not sure if it's because the storm we had last night or what it's cold. I also finally dried off enough to reapply my sunblock, and he's about to throw me in.
He laughs, close on my heels. I push myself faster, letting that one year of track burst through. I failed, miserably. I think he was letting me get away and letting me think I was actually fast. His arms wrap around my waste and although I'm kicking to get out of his grip, I'm secretly enjoying it. I love goofy Conrad.
Just when he was about to drop me in the water, and the cold waves splash against my legs a loud scream comes from behind Conrad and I get one glimpse of Jeremiah and Belly before me and Conrad are both knocked underwater.
His arms are still around me when we come up, but this time he uses it to lift me up because I wasn't prepared for that impact. I cough up water, but I don't mind because I'm laughing. Jeremiah literally came out of no where.
Belly is on the shore laughing at us, and I think then is when both the boys notice her standing there not getting in. Her laughter fades to a stop when she slowly starts inching backwards as Jeremiah inches every step forward that she steps back.
Me and Conrad watch, with smiles on our faces as Jeremiah chases Belly in the same way Conrad just chased me. It takes him all of three minutes before Belly and him are beside us in the water.
"It's cold!" She screams, once she breaks through the water.
"I know!" I laugh, teeth chattering.
"You're both dramatic," Jeremiah sighs, laying to float on his back.
"Come to shore with me?" I ask. "I need to reapply, I was just about too before someone," I say eyeing Conrad. "Threw me back in the water."
He blows me a kiss with his hands, and shrugs. "Boys," Belly says rolling her eyes.
I trail behind her, flopping on my chair letting the sun dry me instead of using my towel.
"How are you and Jeremiah?" I ask, before I had a chance to process I was going to even ask it. Her cheek flush pink, and she avoids my gaze. "Uhm.. I'm missing something." I say, and it isn't a question. I know I'm missing something with that look.
"We almost kissed on the 4th of July. I broke up with Cam Cameron because of it," she spits out.
I blink slowly at her, three times, before I shake my head processing the information. "You almost kissed? So you didn't?"
"No, we didn't. We were so close, and then I knew I had to end it with Cam Cameron so I pulled away. I didn't tell him why I just did it. Then right before we saw you guys out here we had a talk."
"A talk?" I prompt her to continue talking.
"Yes, about what we both want..." she says leaving that hanging there.
"And?!" I practically scream.
"And we're gunna try to make it work. Not dating," she pauses. "Yet, but we are going to go on a date and see how we feel after!" She squeals, I squeal. We both squeal until we shush each other in fear of the boys hearing and coming over to question what we're talking about.
"I'm so happy for you guys," I say giving her a hug.
"Thank you, I'm really happy too."
The boys come out of the water and start walking up to us, Conrad choses to sit in between my legs since Belly stole his chair. Jeremiah takes a seat on Conrad's towel, closest to Belly.
"Anyone hungry?" I ask, breaking any awkward silence that was just about to fall over us.
