The Midnight Encounter.

Two days passed, but for Mythili, the world felt like it was stuck in a loop. That one morning at the temple refused to leave her mind. Every time she closed her eyes, she saw those sharp, pitch-black eyes and heard the echo of her own voice shouting—making her want to bury her face in a pillow all over again.

The three girls fell back into their routine. Today was Saturday—half-day college, meaning they were free from the afternoon.

"What do we do now? We're free, na." Sowmya said, stretching her arms as they walked out of the gates.

"Nothing for me. I have some work, I'm going to the library." Mythili replied, already heading toward the quiet halls of books.

"What? Please, Mythu, don't do this, yaar!" Sowmya groaned.

"Koncham life ni enjoy cheyyave. Mariii books lo munigi thelaku." Sandhya added, pulling her back.

("Enjoy life a little. Don't drown yourself in books.")

"No means no. We already planned for tomorrow, remember?" Mythili said with a finality in her voice that left no room for argument.

"Okay, you win. Go to your home—aka the library." Sowmya said, twisting her mouth in a mock pout.

"We'll go home and chill."

Sunday finally arrived, and with it, a whirlwind of energy.

"MYTHILIII... get ready fast!" Sowmya's voice thundered from the hall.

"Vasthunnane... aagu!" Mythu yelled back, frantically trying to fix her hair in the mirror.

("I'm coming... wait!")

It was her birthday celebration—delayed by a few days, but definitely not forgotten. Not with Sowmya around to remind everyone every five minutes. The three of them stepped out on their scooties, the air filled with the kind of excitement only a girls' day out can bring.

"First shopping!" Sandhya declared, revving her engine.

"After that, can we go to the orphanage?" Mythili added softly. "I want to contribute something to their menu today."

Sowmya smiled warmly. "That's why we love you, ra. You're too compassionate for your own good."

The mall was a sea of people. They moved from shop to shop, trying on dresses they couldn't afford and laughing at the ones that looked ridiculous.

"Mythu, try this one!" Sandhya held up a glittering, slightly over-the-top dress.

"It's too much." Mythili replied, eyeing the sequins.

"Exactly why you should try it!" Sowmi grinned, pushing her toward the trial room. After an hour of playful arguments, they finally walked out with a few bags and big smiles.

At the orphanage, Mythili's face softened instantly. They had brought chocolates and stationery items within their student budget, and Mythu made a special contribution to the kitchen for a festive meal. They spent hours serving food, playing with the kids, and distributing gifts. By the time they left, the sun had long set, leaving behind a cool, late-evening breeze.

As soon as they stepped out, Sowmya's 'party mode' switched back on. "Movie night!" she screamed.

"Second show!" Sandhya added, high-fiving her.
