After a grueling stretch of midterm exams and a mountain of back-to-back assignments, Mythili finally felt like she could breathe. She was in her room, hurriedly packing the last of her things into her suitcase.
The air was filled with the scent of travel and the excitement of going home.

Her phone vibrated on the bed. A bright smile graced her lips the moment she saw the caller ID.
"Hello... DCP Sir," she answered, her voice soft.
"Are you ready?" His voice was clipped and stern, sounding more like he was addressing a junior officer than his girlfriend.
She pouted at the phone. "Yes..." she mumbled.
"Come down. I'm waiting in the parking area."
"You can come up, you know," she suggested gently. "Have some coffee or tea before we leave. Why wait down there in the heat?"
"Mythili..."
He just said her name, but the tone was enough to make her zip her lips. She knew that specific warning in his voice.
"Okay, okay. I'll be there in five minutes," she said, cutting the call before he could get grumpier.
She sat on the edge of the bed for a second, sighing. It didn't take rocket science to figure out why he was being so difficult.
Grumpy man, she thought, twisting her lips in a half-smile. He was sulking, and she knew exactly why.
"Mythu! What are you doing, girl? You're taking forever!" Sowmya's voice boomed from the living room. "I just saw the DCP's car pull into the complex. Don't make the man wait!"
She was leaving two days earlier than her friends.
"Coming, Sowmi! Stop shouting," She called back. "I know he's here. He just called."
She took one last look in the mirror, touched up her hair, grabbed her luggage, and walked out.
After a round of quick hugs and promises to call the moment she reached home, She rushed to the lift. She couldn't afford to be late; a grumpy Ram was one thing, but a truly angry DCP was a force of nature.

As the lift doors opened on the ground floor, she saw him. Ram was leaning against the wall, his arms crossed over his broad chest.
