The Word Vs The Love.
______๑♡๑______
"If my happiness costs you your life, Nanna... then your word is my final answer. I will stay away from him."
Suresh felt a surge of relief, but it was short-lived.
Vasu stood shocked, 'Agreed?' she thought, the word tasting like ash. She couldn't believe her daughter was surrendering so easily.
"Mythili...?" Vasu's voice was a whisper, but Mythili didn't turn.
She kept her gaze locked on her father. Her eyes weren't just wet with tears; they were searching his soul, asking...questions.
"If that makes you happy, Nanna." She began, her voice steady despite the tremor in her hands. "I'll stay away from him. I'll follow your every word. I won't cross the line you've drawn."
Suresh's face turned relief, but before he could feel the victory, she dropped the hammer.
"But I will never forget my love. You can control my footsteps, but you can't control my heartbeat. Naa pranam unnanthavaraku, aayana ni marchiponu. (As long as I have life, I'll never forget him.) I will be the daughter you want, but I will be a shell of the person I was."
Suresh face turned hard.
"Yes." She said, her voice dropping to a low, vibrating frequency. "My love for Ramachandra is forever. Our bond is beyond your 'No,' nanna. I can't just unlove him because you're asking. Not in this lifetime... maybe not ever."
Then, she dropped the hammer. "I know about Kasturi Attha." (bua)
The name hit Suresh like a physical blow. He recoiled, his eyes snapping to Vasu in a silent, accusing question: You told her?
Vasu didn't flinch; she simply nodded, her eyes wet but steady.
"Then there is nothing more to say." Suresh rasped, his pride rising like a wall. "It's the end of the matter. Leave it here." He stood up, his movements stiff, and began walking toward the door, desperate to escape the truth.
"Nanna..." (papa...)
Her voice stopped him. It wasn't the voice of a little girl; it was stern, commanding. He turned, and for the first time, he saw her—really saw her.
"Just remember one thing." she said, her voice echoing in the small room. "Every life is different. Every fate is unique. You can't lock me in a cage just because you're living in fear of a ghost. You can't let the past steal my future."
She stepped closer, refusing to let him look away. "Don't worry about my tomorrow. I am happy with him. I trust him, nanna. He won't just love me—he will protect me with his very life."
"Oh... accha! Is that so?" Suresh's voice was dripping with bitter sarcasm. "Is that why you were lying in a hospital bed, hovering between life and death? Wow... he protected you so well. I am so happy to hear that."
His heart felt like it was being squeezed by a cold hand. It wasn't just the fear of the police uniform anymore; it was the 'Kanna Thandri'(papa) in him feeling replaced. He looked at her and saw her defending another man's love over his thirty years of devotion.
To a father, no man is ever good enough for his daughter, but a man who lets her get hurt is unforgivable.
But Mythili didn't flinch. She stepped into his space...
