A month later
I felt a moment of apprehension as I stared at myself in the full length mirror. The beautiful wedding dress hugged every curve I had and I felt like a princess, it brought out memories from my childhood when I wished for the fairy tale ending with the handsome prince.
Now real life was playing out my little girl fantasy. But I was no princess and Angel was no prince but we loved each other more than we thought possible and the last month had been bliss between us.
Figuring out and taking over the daily running of my father's business had stressed me out and I don't know how I had made it through an entire month already. I tried not to think about it too much because inevitably it would make me feel overwhelmed. I had to break it down into stages to be able to view it with any confidence that I could do it.
There was a knock. "You ready?" It was Kaiden.
"Yes," I said, feeling breathless. I don't know why I was so nervous. I was already married to Angel, this big ceremony was only for show.
The door opened and I looked over my shoulder to see Kaiden's eyes widened. "You look stunning."
"Thanks, you wouldn't believe how much it took to get to this point," I teased.
He shook his head. "Angel is a very lucky man."
I nodded in agreement.
He took my hand into his and put it through his elbow and led me out the dressing room where my father, Andrew Vincent waited.
"You're beautiful," Andrew said as Kaiden handed me over to him.
I slipped my arm through his elbow. "Thanks."
He had deteriorated a lot over the last month, and his illness was clear to see in the grayness of his skin and the weight he had lost.
"You ready?" he asked as Kaiden left us to stand on the bride's side of the alter.
The church was massive and I had no idea how many guests there were.
As Andrew walked me down the aisle, my eyes fixed on Angel. He looked so handsome in a tux with James standing by his side.
I suppressed an anxious breath and tried to remember to put one foot in front of the other as we made our way down the aisle. There was a blur of faces and I didn't recognize most of the people who stood watching me.
It was like have a wedding with a bunch of strangers but I tried to remember I was doing this for my father, Andrew. The other one who had held that title for most of my life had disappeared again and no one knew where he was. It was self centered and irresponsible but I couldn't expect him to change when he had been that way my entire life.
On one side were the Vincent guests and on the other were the guests for the Knox family.
It was a statement that this union was joining the two families together. Angel would run his side and I would run my side.
But I didn't want to think about business today. I wanted to keep my attention fixed on the beautiful ceremony and my handsome husband who was smiling as I neared.
My father stopped and kissed me on my cheek before going to sit down in a seat in the front row.
Angel took my hands in his. His hold was warm and steady.
"You are beautiful," he whispered to me and I smiled under his praise.
Kaiden stood beside me. I had the most important people in my life standing beside me as Angel and I repeated our wedding vows before Angel kissed me, showing some restraint that made me smile. There would be later and that was the part I was looking forward to.
We turned to face the guests who stood and began to clap.
"See that wasn't so bad," Angel murmured beside me.
"No more weddings, I'm done now," I returned.
"Now we get back to business," Kaiden said beside me, also watching the crowd of people.
"Let's not talk work today," James said as he straightened his cuff.
Kaiden nodded. "Just today. Tomorrow we have to figure out who is creeping into our territories and trying to undermine us."
We still didn't know the identity of the person who had put a hit out on Bruno.
"That's tomorrow's problem," Angel murmured. His hand interlinked with mine.
The three men that stood with me were my family. The ones whose loyalty I would never question and who would protect me with their lives.
I was so lucky to have them in a world where money and power mattered above all else.
