The School elections were almost here and the school was a buzz about the candidates putting themselves forward. We had the worker, the decent choice and the popular cheerleader. Or as I called them try too hard, know it all and barbie doll. Chloe wads covering it in the newspaper and taking pictures while Pete just drooled over Felice. Then Paul Chan the know it all was attacked by a swarm and it was covered by Chloe.

"That's got to be my all time worst nightmare. I get stung by one bee, I swell up like a grapefruit, but over a hundred." Pete shook his head imagining the situation.

"What I would like to know is how they got into paul's bathroom?" I question "Bee's are a different kind of intelligent but they're yousually focused on collecting pollen and they usually follow the orders of a queen. When a bee flies into your house it's scary but coincidence, a swarm of bees doing the exact same thing is highly unusual." Clark handed me the paper

"Well the centre for environmental protection is sending in a team from Metropolis to investigate." Chloe replied pointing to that part of her article.

"Guess that's really gonna shake up our class election." Pete theorised

"Not really. I mean Paul's name is still on the ballot and he wouldn't take office till the fall. He should have recovered by then, right Mia?" Chloe answered then glanced to me

"Depends on how well he responds to treatment and given there are no complications. Yes." I answer

"Out of sight, out of mind. My call, he gets a few sympathy votes but that's about it."

"Nice to see the softer side of Pete." Clark joked

"Seriously."

"Anyway there's a new candidate on the horizon who will make things interesting." he declared as we were rounding a corner

"Yeah, like who?" I question then he gestures up. There in front of us was a well decorated banner stating 'CLARK KENT FOR PRESIDENT' "You didn't?" I glance shocked at Pete

"What have you done?" Clark breathed

"I see a big future for you in politics, Clark. It's straight forward. People like you, the dig your sister since she's dating the Quarterback and she's helped solved their ails without rising Nurse from hell." he tried to convinced him. I actually found it funny oh wait until I told mom and dad.

"No way." Clark denied

"Come on Clark, you're the whole package. Looks, brains, and that whole farm-boy charm. Did I mention the perks of power?"

"If it was such a great gig, why didn't you run?" Clark retorted

"I know my strengths. I'm more power behind the throne." he answered

"Pete's a King maker. Like Richard Neville, 16th Earl of Warwick who made Edward the forth King of England. From Petes stand point he's in a better position." I laughed

"Exactly. Mia get's me. All you gotta do is show up, shake a couple of hands, give a speech it's easy." Pete agreed with me though I don't think he got the full reference I was making he understood it was in his favour.

"And we wonder why our politicians aren't great leaders."

"Clark, Clark, Clark." I started chanting. Pete joined in and as did other students

"Mia, shut up." Clark knocked my arm

"Oh, come on, live a little. Let's go Pete, I'm totally invested." I drag him away and we get to work coming up with ideas for Clarks campaign. When i get home later that date I'm buzzed

"Looky, look here. Hot off the press. Pete and I came up with it. viva la revolution!" I showed Clark the mock up poster and he sighed while Mom took it off me .

"Clark Kent for president?" Mom questioned

"Oh, don't worry, I'm pulling my name out tomorrow." Clark assured as he went to get something out of the fridge. Dad held his hand out for it and Mom handed it to him.

"I think this is a terrific idea." Dad agreed

"You do?" Clark seemed shocked

"You always say you don't get a chance to get involved because football is off limits maybe this is a opportunity." Clark came back with the bottle of milk and sat down

"I just assumed you would say no. Student government is such a public thing."

"You, my dear brother have a lot to learn about the inner workings of our parents. We need to give you the female intuition." I rested my hand on his shoulder

"It doesn't require you to use your gifts and it's a school activity to make your own." Clark still looked unsure about the whole thing.

"What's the matter son you don't look to happy about this." Dad wondered as Clark went to drink milk from the bottle but mom stopped him.

"Relax, Dad that's how he normally looks, disheartened and constipated. Can i have the orange juice, please?" Dad pulled the jug out of the fridge and handed it to me with a glass.

" It's just I've never put myself out there. We've always tried to stay out of the spotlight." Clark replied

"Aren't you the one that bugs me and complains how I never opened myself up to people? You give yourself a hernia when I'm to much of a recluse. I smell hypocrite." I comment to my brother pouring myself a glass.

"Well nobody's saying you have to run." Mom countered

"Clark, you can quit if you want, but remember quitting is a very hard habit to break." Dad became the voice of reason

"No pressure."

-------------------------

Clark decided to run for class president. Pete took care of the visual and I did the things he had no interests in like thinking about Clarks platform issues. I thought like him and he tested well on. He came up with a catchy slogan for his posters and was handing out pin badges. Clark was obviously going to help out the Lana since the Talon was decreasing in numbers.

"Lana can I have a herbal tea please." i request walking in. She was already with my brother.

"Sure." she headed behind the counter

"Here." I hand the papers to Clark and he took them from me "top ten issues of the school, chose three to focus on and the rest have in your back pocket just in case." I felt Whitney snake his arms around me. I rest my arms on his and lean my head into his shoulder.

"I've written what people find important, why you'll need to be seen doing something about them and tested pols on whether people actually care. You just need to do the speech." I added "Hi." I smiled up at my boyfriend

"Hey." he gave me a peck on the lips

"Thanks but How did you get this done in one day?" he wondered

"I'm a researcher. Pete says it's about popularity, but that will only get you so far. Over half the student body cares about the superficial stuff. To get those who matter, you gonna need to work a little harder." My phone started ringing. it was from my boss "I need to take this." I tap Whitney's hands and he lets go while I take the phone call. It was not a good phone call either and it left me sighing when I fished up

"What's the matter?" Lana questioned handing me my tea

"That was my boss. Apparently one of the moronic doctors forgot to take a biohazard material to its destination and brought it into the cafe instead. While fishing for change it came out and now the whole place is cordoned off and I'm out of work till it's deemed safe. How these people get their degrees amazes me, honestly it does."

"So you don't get paid for a while." Clark shrugged "You have enough saved up to keep you going.

"Seriously, Clark? My pay check before i was pregnant could cover me, now that I am, it's complicated, college baby and essentials. Me not working and not compensated for someone else actions. i do what I do so I don't have to worry about it later. It's how I stay sane." I have some of my drink.
