I was sat before a gathering of people and a judge to explain what happened with Deputy Watts. Though it wasn't just me, Chloe, the other deputy, other officers, the coroner . All explained their version of events. It was my turn. I was asked questions and I answered them to the best of my ability.
"Miss Kent why did you shoot Deputy Watts in the knee caps?"
"Two reasons, to keep him down long enough for me to escape. To make sure he couldn't hurt me or my baby." I answered "May I speak freely, for a minute?" Lawyer Stone looked to the judge as did I and she nodded
"Go ahead."
"What happened those few days, was a freak, rare phenomena. For me to just tell you what I saw it sounds unbelievable. I still don't believe it and I went through it. However this one in a trillion chance, the perfect storm of occurrences helped me save my friend. Deputy Watts died, in my opinion because of distorted beliefs. They tainted his perception and it lead to him committing these crimes against my friend and against me.
Two minutes. Two minutes From the moment he declared his intention to me stumbling into my brothers arms. Some people don't have that, I did and I used it to save me and my baby. Deliberate all you want come up with whatever answer you need to close the book but for me it will be apart of me forever. It will continue to make no sense. The simple fact of my story is, is that I used that two minutes and everything in me, to dodge a bullet, disarm my attacker and make sure that he wouldn't be able to follow me." I declared and the judge cleared his throat.
"Thank you Miss Kent that will be all." I stood and left the room.

School was no longer the safe quiet space from the rest of the world. Since Deputy Watts it had become public knowledge that the reason I shot him in the kneecaps was to protect my baby and now came the mocking stares and the judgement. I hid in the library when I wasn't with my brother, my friends or Whitney.
"There you are." Chloe breathes and I look up to her "I need my best friend."
"What's the matter?" I question putting my book to one side and standing up
"They're closing the LuthorCorp Plant." she tells me and i sigh, that meant her Dad was out of a job as were another 20,000 plus people. i hugged her
"I'm sorry, Chloe." I pulled away and grabbed my things leaving the library with her.
At the end of the school day, Clark and I went home, work was still closed off so I had nothing to do until Whitney came over for tutoring. Mom and Dad were sat on the sofa reading the ledger.
"So you heard." I comment
"The Ledger rushed a special edition." Mom replied "They haven't done that since the meteor shower." The two of us sat down with them.
"We spoke to Chloe, she's pretty upset." Clark added
"Upset? She's devastated, she finally settled in a place she likes where her Dad actually likes and then this happens. it's appalling." I retort back.
"I spoke to her father. He's in shock" Dad told us
"I don't blame him." Mom scoffed
"How's this going to affect us?" Clark wondered and I was thinking the same but i didn't want to sound too selfish when it popped up the first time with Chloe.
"That plat was Smallville's biggest employer. Shutting it down is gonna have a domino effect, on everyone." Mom answered
"I can't believe Lex would run it into the ground in less than a year." Dad grumbled
"You know I'm not a big Lex fan, but I have to admit I don't think he's behind this. Lex for his thousands of faults has planted roots here, friends, much to our dismay. I think this is all his father." I voiced, and yes I did vomit a little defending him.
"Whatever issues Lionel Luthor has with his son now cost half the town their jobs." dad retorted
"You should be happy then. It means Lex is going back to Metropolis, out of our lives." Clark rebuffed
"The plant closing is gonna hurt a lot of people Clark. Now as much as I would like Lex out of our lives, I wouldn't wish that on anybody."
"I know Dad but Lex likes this town. He said he had big plans. " Clark defended
"The road to hell is paved with good intentions" Dad got up and left the room.

Whitney didn't want to study today. Instead he wanted to surprise me with something. He took me out to the fields so far and then covered my eyes. I giggled as we shuffled along.
"Okay turn...We're almost there." he assured
"Okay." I giggled
"Now, stop." We did "Open your eyes." My eyes fluttered open and readjusted to the light. I melted at the sight of the little picnic that he set up by the lake. He wrapped his arms around me.
"Whitney, this is so sweet." I cooed then glanced at him "What is with the mystery?"
"Can't a guy plan a picnic for his girlfriend?" he asked
"I'm not complaining, I love it. It's very spontaneous of you." We went to sit down on the blanket.
"Are you saying i'm boring?"
"Nothing between us since the beginning of the year has ever been boring. I'm saying this is lovely and sweet. I'm just questioning the occasion." I answer back as he pulls out a roses and twiddles it in his fingers before handing it to me.
"It's to thank you for everything. It's been a difficult year and thinking on it. I don't think i could have done it without you." he told me "You have gotten me through crappy grades, what happened with my Dad, you're making me a Dad and a better boyfriend."
"We've been there for each other. It wasn't just one sided." I reply smelling the rose
"There's something i want to tell you." he started digging through his bag
"Okay this seems to be going a way that is way to..." he handed me aa folded up piece of paper and a part of me breathed a small sigh of relief. "What's this?"
"Read it." he told me. I opened it up and there in gold lettering was 'United States Marine Corps
"The Marines?"
"You told me to find a purpose a drive like you have and I did. I enlisted. I think it's the right thing for me to do. Not just for me...for us." I dropped the letter and it landed in my lap. I didn't go into shock often sometimes it isn't physically possible. This was not one of these times. A hand rested against my head and the other against my stomach. "When I found my Dad's medals, I felt like he was telling me which path I should take."
"You can't do this for your father."
"I'm not. I'm doing this for us. Please don't be mad."
"Whitney..." i felt like I was choking up "You're telling me, your pregnant girlfriend that your enlisting in the marines. How can I not be mad. How can I not? You're gonna leave when I need you the most. This isn't some world war, where you have to go. This is a war somewhere far and your choosing now to do it. I need time to process it."
"I don't have a lot of time." He told me "I ship out for basic training Saturday night."
"But what about Graduation? What about the appointments and, and everything you promised?" I stutter out.
"The only thing I'm gonna miss in Smallville is the two of you." he rested a hand on my stomach "I promise you I will be back but I need to do this."
