I fiddled nerviously with the chain of my handbag in the back of the police car.
I slept at the twin's and Ryan stayed too. I slept in Chloe's room and the boys slept in Charlie's. Chloe woke me up early in the morning and everyone walked me home. The mansion was all locked up, just the way I'd left it.
We went to my room to start packing. The boys hauled down two big suitcases from the top of my cabinet and started opening my drawers. Chloe and Charlie folded my clothes neatly the Ryan put them in the suitcases. I grabbed my back-pac and started shoving all my school things inside and also a few more clothes.
I also grabbed my hand bag and put a few essencials inside. Phone, wallet, ipad, laptop, tabs and chargers.
Once we were done packing, we went downstairs where Rachel was waiting by her car. I hugged my friends tight and promised to come over as much as possible. Then, I climbed into the back seat and Rachel drove off.
Half and hour later, the car pulled over in-front of a small house. The village Rachel talked about was cute. There was a cafe, a small library, a skatepark and a small playground where kids were playing.
Huh, mabye staying here with aunt won't be so bad after all. I thought.
I got out of the car with Rachel and looked up at the house. It was cute two storeyed cottage with oak walls and big windows. The walls were painted bright blue and there was a porch at the front which seemed a pleasant place for me read and also a great view of the village. But why are the curtains drawn shut? I wondered, seeing the binds blocking view inside.
Rachel knocked on the door and we heard a grunt inside. I was really starting to get more and more nervious when I heard another grunt and a shuffle of slippers. The door slowly creaked open and my aunt appeared.
You know, normally when a person pictures their aunt, I'm pretty sure they picture a beautiful lady who dresses up nicely and always treats you kindly. I'm sure they picture a kind lady who loves to bake and has manners, a lady who smiles and brightens up everytime they see you.
Yeah, my aunt was nothing like that. Not. Even. Close. She was a fat lady, with a bag of potato chips in one hand and a remote in the other. She was wearing a pair of pink pajamas, a yellow sweatshirt, and rainbow fuzzy cat slippers. There was the sound of the TV in the background and I held my breath when I got a wiff of her. Seriously, how long has it been since the woman had a shower?
"Mona Walkers?" Rachel asked.
"Yeah, that's me." She answered in a gruff voice.
"I'm Officer Rachel Drew. I belive we talked last night on the phone? About your niece, Noami Walkers."
I smiled weakly and waved.
"That's her? Huh. Looks a little skinny but it's alright. Long as she can do chores and work."
How is this woman even related to dad?
Rachel coughed.
"Well. I'm not sure how long it will take for us to find her parents so she'll be staying here for a while. Hope you don't mind."
"Nah. No probs."
Even though she said that, she definitely looked like she was pissed to have me here. She glared hard at me and Rachel.
Rachel coughed again. "So, I'll be coming here every week to report my finds. Uh, Miss Walkers, do you want to unpack now?"
I just nodded.
"Yer room is upstairs. Last one on the right."
With that, aunt shuffled back to the living room to watch TV. I stared at her for a long moment, not even sure what to do. Luckily, Rachel said she'd help me unpack. We both grabbed a suitcase and dragged them upstairs.
