I groaned at the morning light. I thought I closed the curtains. I jolted awake when I realized Ryan was asleep next to me on the couch, his head on my shoulder again.
He groaned at the sudden movement, readjusted his head and kept sleeping. I sighed and checked the time on my phone. Ten in the morning.
"Why the hell aren't you sleeping in the boys' room with the other two?" I hissed.
"The two idiots hogged the beds." He replied eyes still closed.
"Why couldn't you share with Charlie?" I asked.
"The last time I shared a bed with him, he kicked me in the balls in his sleep." Said Ryan. "Now every time we have a sleepover, I sleep on the floor."
I sighed.
"Why aren't you sleeping with the girls?" He asked with a sly grin, one eye open.
"I fell asleep on the couch, stupid."
****
Two hours later I slapped Ryan awake and pushed the two girls off the bed. Then I screamed at the boys to wake up from their room door but they didn't listen and Ryan was asleep at the foot of Charlie's bed again. So I took the pleasure of filling up a glass of water from the kitchen and dousing the boys, one by one. Ahhhh. The little pleasures in life.
After I finally managed to get everyone awake, we had a quick lunch of canned pasta. I swallowed the last of the pasta and we ran down and took the first cab to the police station. Then that's when things becamea bit difficult.
"I'm telling you that we're cousins of hers! We need to know where Elli and Jake are immediately!" I yelled.
The police man eyed me. "And why should I believe you young lady? We're talking about invading their privacy here."
I sighed. This guy was not as stupid as he looked. I would have used the map to find them but Silver said that it was best not to use magic just yet. You never know what it might attract.
"Listen, I even have her papers to prove it. Elli Peters is my cousin." I gave him the papers I found in the hole back at home with all of Elli's details plus a fake photo of me and her smiling and grinning like dorks. Product of Charlie, photoshop and a little bit of digging in Instagram.
"Funny, I thought this Elli Peters was an orphan with no known relatives." Grunted the officer. "And who uses papers these days? You could have easily typed fake information and printed it. If you'd given me a holographic card or a tab with a verificable identification code, things would have been much simpler."
With a look of defeat I snatched the papers from his hands. He smiled in satisfaction.
"Listen, you seem like a nice kid, but if you want me to believe your story, you're going to have to tell the truth." Said the officer gently.
I gulped and nodded. "We're not her cousins..." I hesitated, trying to formulate another believable lie in my head. I sure as hell was not going to go tell people we apparently destined to save the world.
"We're her friends from the orphanage. Our dean is outside taking a smoke. She sent us here saying that if we showed you the papers you would give us the address. We just want to get Elli and Jake home. We're scared for them. The only way to keep them safe is to take them back home to England." I sniffed.I felt a little guilty about lying honestly, but I was not making it up when I said that I was worried. Elli could be my sister, my blood. There is absolutely no way some fat police officer was going to stop me from getting these kids safe.
The officer rasied his eyebrow. He grabbed the papers from my hands and inspected them again. After shuffling through the papers for a while, the police man grunted and reluctantly gave us the address of the hotel they were staying in. We got out there as fast as possible and called a cab. As soon as we arrived we ran up to the receptionist and asked for the room they were staying in.
