Noah pov
I felt so nervous, and I had absolutely no idea why. I'd gone to a few dances with Chloe, Ryan and Charlie before. So why the hell am I so scared about this?
Nobles from all over the spirit world will be present at this ball...Trust me when I say impressing the Nobles is very, very important for your reputation, Chosen Ones. My throat dried out as I remembered Inji's words.
That's not the reason. Whispered a voice inside.I'll tell her after we catch the attackers. Then conversation I had with Ryan. Right before we left the organization. Ever since we came back from the trip to New York, I've been with Elli for more than three to four months. And I still hadn't told her that she could have a sister. A family.
My palms were slick with sweat. After discovering that Elli could speak Latin, it was one more clue, one more thing that made it more obvious. She was my sister.
Or is it just a coincidence? Lot's of members of the organization can speak Latin. Maybe she inherited that from her mother. Maybe the only reason she could speak Latin was because her mother could. Thoughts engulfed my mind as we all followed Inji towards the ballroom.
Just as we reached the huge glass double doors, Inji smirked before throwing them open.
The ballroom was magnificent. Illusions of giant spirits floating around, as if we were under the sea. Whale-like spirits, all of different colors flew around the room, as if swimming around us. A large red glittering spirit, the size of a huge whale, flew in our direction. I held up my arm in wonder, trying to stroke it as it passed us. My hand went straight through. Like colorful fish swimming in the ocean, hundreds of those whale like spirits swam all around the room, flying in between the tables, floating over our heads.
The room was crowded with hundreds of people. Nobles wearing colorful gowns, tuxes and tunics milled about, chatting and dancing with fellow spirits. Servants in white and black tunics walked around carrying platters of food, serving the nobles. Beautiful orchestra played from the other end if the room, and nobles danced to the beat in the center of the enormous ballroom. Hundreds of circular tables surrounded the dance floor in a circular pattern, where the people who weren't dancing were happily sitting, eating, talking and looking around the ballroom with bored looks. This reminded me of the rich parties dad used to take me to.
Everyone's heads turned as we walked in through the doors. The music stopped, the cheerful chatter of the Nobles died down and even the servants stopped walking around to serve them. All eyes turned to us.
Inji strut in front of us, confident and smiling. Ignoring the silence, she bowed down, greeting everyone in the room. "Welcome." her voice echoed around the entire ballroom. "We thank you all for coming here this night."
Nobody said a single word for a moment. I gulped. Then, one by one, everyone bowed down, in the same manner as Inji did.
From the crowd, Lady Faiza stepped up, in a magnificent black gown. She turned to the audience and smiled luminously. "As my daughter has said, welcome and thank you for being present on this very special night. As you know, with the dark lord rising once again, I am aware our world faces a critical situation. But all that will change! All of the deaths, since the rise of Tenebris, will not be in vain!" my throat squeezed as I listened to her speech. Everyone in the room was silent, hooked on to every word she was saying.
"Tonight, we are here to celebrate the beginning of Queen Diana's prophecy! We are here to celebrate the arrival of our saviors! My friends, it is my greatest honor to present to you, the Ten Chosen!" I wasn't expecting the thunderous applause at all. Every spirit in the room cheered, clapping their hands. The music started once again and the nobles went back to dancing and talking.
