Jimmie’s was a smallish, rustic bar filled with smoke, the smell of booze and vomit and greasy food. I’d been there a few times before; once when I was looking for a job and another when I was looking for someone to start a fight with and the third … well you don’t need to know that.
All the times I’ve been there it’s been full of people and someone was yelling but tonight there was only a hand full of people drinking at the bar or talking and smoking in the back. There used to be a pool table in the middle of the room getting towards the back of the building but whenever there was a fight people would break the sticks over someone’s back or windows and walls would end up with holes in them as a result of people throwing the balls. So it was just cheaper for the owner to not replace it the last time the table was broken, and there have been fewer holes in the walls and windows since.
I walked in and asked for a ULD ouzo and cola; they can serve fancier drinks here with more alcohol but I wasn’t planning on getting drunk tonight, and sat at the back of the room so I could see everyone who walked in and out of the bar.
My phone buzzed in my pocket and my ring tone played. I pulled my phone out of my pocket and answered it.
“Hello?”
“Anything happened so far?” It was Edward.
“Nope I just got here.” I rolled my eyes.
Edward and I had been arguing about whether or not I should go since this morning. He didn’t want me to go alone in case it was a trap but I didn’t want Edward coming because he’d get in the way if a fight broke out.
“Ok well let me know if something happens.”
I smiled.
“Will do.”
“And Sarah … be careful.”
“Will do.”
I hung up the phone and took another sip of my ULD and waited.
From nine PM, the time I first arrived at Jimmie’s, to eleven PM, the time it is now, not much had happened. A few extra people had entered the establishment, a few people had left to probably go home to their families, one fight had started amongst three burly men but that was taken outside and ended as quickly as it began. I was on my forth drink and was getting bored of waiting around when I could be elsewhere doing something different.
My phone buzzed again, this time it was a text.
Sorry to keep you waiting my lovely I was … preoccupied heh anyway I’m here now and the fun can begin.
‘What how could he be here?’ I looked around the room but didn’t see him in the room.
I texted him back.
Where are you!?
All he responded with was a laugh.
The door was kicked open and I saw a bunch of cops burst through the door. Everyone flew into a panic and started trying to get out of the building but the police just cut everyone off and handcuffed them.
“What’s going on?” The bartender yelled at the police as they proceeded to arrest anyone that moved.
I continued to watch the scene from my corner; no one seemed to notice me.
A hand was placed on my shoulder.
“Hello my lovely.”
‘How did he get behind me?’
“Just stay calm and everything will end ok.” His voice was as giggly as ever.
I didn’t even have time to ask what he was talking about before my arms were pinned to my side and there was a gun held to my head.
“Hello gentleman!”
‘Ow did he have to yell that close to my ear?’
All the police aimed their guns at us completely forgetting about the quivering civilians kneeling in front of them.
“Tut tut tut.” He pressed the gun harder to my temple. “If anyone fires their gun or tries to follow me then I’m going to have to shoot this lovely lady in the head.”
No one followed us as he dragged me out the back and into an alley way behind the bar. He let me go burst out laughing as he opened the door of a car he must have commandeered.
“That was fun.” He laughed.
I looked at him wide eyed.
“Umm what was all that about?”
“Sorry about that the police coming wasn’t part of the plan.” He opened the car door for me hop in.
I crossed my arms.
“Why did you want to see me?”
“I’ll explain on the way.” He motioned for the car.
“No you tell me now or I’ll start screaming and the police will more than likely come.”
He glared at me dangerously, taking three paces so he was standing in front of me towering over me.
“If you started screaming then I might have to.” He paused, “Stop you.”
His eyes seemed to glow and his voice was low and deep as he said those last two words and it was only then that I could understand why people were so scared of him.
I stepped closer to him.
“Then do it.” I challenged him.
He just laughed and back away.
“I’m not going to touch you.” He laughed. “I wanted to see you because I think I know where Quinn is.”
“What? You know where she is?”
He nodded.
“Now will you please get in the car.”
