I woke the next morning when I felt Edward move next to me, he winced.
“Are you ok?” I slowly opened my eyes as I moved closer to him.
His breath rattled through his chest as he answered
“Better than last night.”
I slowly set myself up so I was kneeling next to Edward and look down at him; blood what still showing through the bandages, I could still make out the lettering that Harley carved into his chest. I looked at my lap and felt a tear slide down my cheek.
I felt Edward reach up and brushed my cheek with the tips of his fingers.
“I’m sorry.” I murmured.
He held my cheek in his hand and he brushed away my tears with his thumb.
“It’s not your fault.”
I shook my head but didn’t argue.
“Here let me have a look.”
Helping him up I started to unwrap the bandages I had set last night. Every now and then he would wince and his back would jerk as he flinched from the pain but I got the bandages off.
“There now lie down and let me have a look.”
The cuts were still red and angry and were still bleeding a bit but other than that he didn’t look all that bad. I gently touched one of the scars with the pads of my fingers; he drew in a sharp breath through his teeth and closed his eyes.
“Sorry.” I whispered.
He shook his head and opened his eyes again.
“No, it’s fine.”
I left the room for a brief moment to get a damp towel from the bathroom.
“Here.” I laid the towel over the scares.
He went tense but relaxed soon after.
I paced around my house.
Edward had fallen asleep a while ago and I didn’t want to do anything that might wake him.
‘Harley’s going to pay.’ I sat on the couch.
I had just spent the past hour trying to tidy my house so it somewhat resembled what it used to be, but that wasn’t the only reason I was going to kill her.
‘You can do what you want to me just leave my friends and family out of it.’
I got to my feet again and walked to the window; it was raining heavily outside giving everything a dark mysterious look to it. My eyes landed on some ivy growing up the trees across the other side of the lawn.
I looked back at my bedroom where Edward was sleeping. I didn’t want to leave him in case Harley came back but I had to see someone. I walked back into my bedroom and walked over to where Edward was sleeping in the middle of the bed, he didn’t move.
“I’m going out for a few minutes but I’ll be back soon.” I lightly kissed his forehead. He moaned and rolled over facing me but didn’t wake.
I smiled and took a knife out of my pocket, placing it on the bedside table so he could see it.
‘Hopefully he won’t need that.’
I walked to the front door and looking back the house to reassure myself that everything would be alright I left.
It had been awhile since I last called on Pamela, or Poison Ivy as people now knew her as. I was only young when I first met her but she was friends with my brother and Edward for some years, she was also probably the only person who Harley Quinn called friend.
Her abode was on the other side of Gotham, an old conservatory that she had spent the past few years filling with plants, flowers and all other types of plant life.
I pushed the doors open and carefully walked inside.
“Pam.” I called.
Ivy and I were friends, but if she was working with Harley then I should be careful.
“Pam.”
Leaves rustling came from behind me, I turned slowly, holding my breath.
“Raven?”
I heard the calm, soothing voice of Poison Ivy.
I turned to face her with a smile.
“Hey Pam.”
She noticed the unease in my voice and her green eyes lowered.
“I’m sorry about Jonathan.” She pulled me into a hug.
Hugged back.
The smell of flowers scented her red hair and plant covered skin.
“Ivy do you have any idea where she would be keeping him.” I withdrew and looked at her.
She looked at the moss covered ground again and shook her head.
“I lost contact with Harl when they took her into Arkham.” She shook her head. “I’m sorry.”
I nodded.
My eyes were becoming damp with tears.
“If you see her will you let me know?”
She nodded.
I turned to leave, seeing no other reason to stay.
Outside the conservatory lighting lite up the sky followed by thunder; I dropped to my knees and covered my head. I felt Pam come close to me and hold me, trying to calm me down as I whimpered like a child.
“I thought you got over your fear of thunder.” Her soothing voice asked.
Tears streamed down my face as I shook my head, my body trembled as more thunder sounded in the sky followed by rain pelting on the glass roof.
“I’ll be fine.” I sniffed.
I stood trembling, my legs felt as though they were going to give out.
“No.” Pam shook her head and took me by the arm, “You’re going to stay here.”
I shook my head but more thunder went off making me whimper, Pam took me to a small hut with a queen sized bed. The hut had plants lining the walls, filling the small space with the sweet smell of flowers. She pushed me on the bed and lay down next to me with her arms around me, at first I tensed up but she brushed my hair with her fingertips.
“Relax I’m not going to hurt you.”
I closed my eyes forgetting about the thunder crashing outside, as Ivy hummed in my ear and brushed my hair.
I soon fell asleep.
