I could feel a sharp pain on the back of my head, behind the pain I could hear an alarm screaming in the background.

“Sarah!”

My eyes opened at the sound of my name and I saw a very blurry Jim Gordon standing over me with his gun out.

“What happened” Was what I was trying to say but what came out instead was a fit of coughs and hacks. Jim started to pull me to my feet but my legs collapsed underneath me and I was back on the ground again.

“I’ll get her outside.” The gruff voice of Batman came from behind us. Jim looked at me to make sure it was ok before stepping aside and letting Batman carefully pull me to my feet.

My eyes were watery and I could hardly see a thing as I was whisked out of the hospital room and outside into the fresh air, well as fresh as Gotham could be.

“What happened?”

I tried to answer but again all that came out was a coughing fit. I drew in a deep breath and shook my head.

“No.” I managed to chock out, “There was a noise outside out window on the street, I went to look then I couldn’t breathe.”

I burst into another coughing fit.

“The Joker escaped.” Batman informed me, “A gas canister was thrown into your window filling the room and the floor.”

“Is anyone else hurt?” I was breathing easier now.

“No you and five other policemen were the only ones on the floor.”

“Good.” I nodded.

Jim hurried over from the hospital towards me.

“What happened?” He repeated.

Batman retold what I had told him.

Jim nodded and looked like he was going to punch and ambulance I was sitting in.

“I should’ve known he wasn’t going to just sit there and let us hand him over.” He hit the front of the door, “he always has a plan.”

One of the policemen called Jim over and he left. I looked next to me and Batman was gone as well.

I sighed and started walking away from the hospital.

On my walk home I could hear news of the Jokers breakout from the hospital on radios and on TV’s in store windows. ‘Good thing I left when did.’ I smirked at the sight of Vicky Vale standing with a microphone a few meters away from where I had been sitting less than half an hour ago.

I turned onto my street and could see the lights on in my house, I quickened my pace as it started to rain.

“Sarah?”

Edward was standing out the front of my house with his phone in hand. He grabbed me under the arm and led my inside to the living room and threw a blanket around me.

“I saw what happened at the hospital are you ok?” Edward knelt in front of me.

I nodded.

“I’m fine it was nothing.”

“It wasn’t nothing. Quinn might have been there.”

I shook my head.

“She doesn’t kno-” I was cut off.

“Two of my men have gone missing; Mark and Tim.”

I recognized Tim’s name.

“Tim was the only person I told about where you were. I sent him and Mark to look around the old industrial part of Gotham and I stopped hearing from then around two in the morning. “He sighed, “That was two days ago.”
