Stuffing your math books back into your locker, you swapped them out for your English literature ones and glanced at your timetable to see what classes you had left. Thankfully only one after this, which was unfortunately physical education. You never liked how competitive people got over a simple game of dodgeball, people turned into well... monsters.

Like it's a ball, calm down.

Sighing you took your gym uniform out as well and stuffed it into your bag for later before closing up your locker and heading to English lit. You passed the now half painted over graffiti on the way, the curiosity still killing you.

"(Y/n)!"

You stopped and turned to face the voice, finding you'd just walks past L who was swapping out books in his locker too.

"Oh hey, heading in the same direction?" You asked.

"Yeah, gotta sit through this boring class before we can go back to the club room... he sighed, closing his locker.

As you walked down the winding halls, chatting about the next few projects the club were planning, you felt something hit your shoulder and make you stumble.

"Hey!" You snapped.

You and L turned to face who'd just bumped you, and immediately regretted it.

"Oops, didn't see you there. Hard to see you when you're transparent"

Light... god Damnit.

Looks like he'd just come from casket ball too, still in the team uniform.

"For gods sakes of course it's you... leave them out of this Light. Just because you hate me doesn't mean you can be a bitch to people who hang around me" L seethed.

"Just saying it's hard to see someone whose transparent...

"That's kind of offensive you know, a ghost can't exactly just switch off their transparency"

Now you could really see how much they hated each other. They were practically clawing each other's throats out with the angry gaze and words alone.

"Boo hoo, don't get your panties in a twist. But your kind would wear them..." Light sneered.

"What's that I hear? A joke about vampires having a queer history in a mocking tone? Rich coming from the guy who ignores his girlfriends and is obsessed with pissing of a guy. Kind of gay to have a man in your mind 24/7 don't you think?" You sassed.

Light raised an eyebrow at you, not expecting your spice as he'd never heard you speak above a mutter until now.

"Oh the ghost has fangs do they? Bigger fangs than L has..." he retorted.

"Light can you fuck off for two seconds? I'm literally just trying to get an education here" L sighed.

"I'll leave you alone when you stop getting coddled by all the teachers"

"You're seriously still mad I took your spot as top of the class? It's been over a year Light. Let it go, it's not that deep"

Now you had the context for the ongoing feud, you just found Light pathetic. He was seriously that mad over something so small, that happened so long ago. He hated L simply because he was smarter than him, and anyone that associated with L he just saw as someone else to annoy.

"You know for someone who is death itself you're not very imposing. Isn't death meant to be scary. I mean I'm dead and you don't seem very intimidating to me" you spat.

"Butt out, you're not relevant in this" Light replied.

"YOU bumped into ME! And anyone that is harassing my friend is automatically my problem too because I actually care for the people around me. Unlike you who has a side chick you don't care about and a girlfriend you don't care about"

"Not to mention your father is a teacher here and you still go around giving our school a bad name with your attitude. Bet he wouldn't like someone to see a kid with the monster high logo on his jacket harassing others" L replied.

Late for class by now and sick of you and L ganging up on him, he rolled his eyes and adjusted his bag on his shoulder.

"Whatever, I'm done with this" Light scoffed, pushing himself between the two of you to walk away.

Before you could call him a dick, he grabbed the curtain over the window and pulled it open letting the sunlight in as he left. L immediately recoiled in pain and hissed at the sun, stumbling back into the shade as Light just laughed and walked off.

"HEY! YOU PAINTBRUSH LOOKING DICK!" You called after him, quickly closing the curtains again.

L blinked, his vision adjusting to the dimness of the hallway again.

"You ok?" You asked.

He looked down at his hands making sure they weren't burnt, luckily his sleeves blocked most of the light and he was ok.

"Is my face burnt? I don't exactly have a reflection" he asked.

You stepped closer to him, gently brushing his hair aside to get a better look. He felt his dead heart skip a beat at the soft touch of your fingers.

"Just a mild spot on your cheek... what a fucking prick he knows that sun can kill you right? If he does that and you get seriously hurt or killed he'd be jailed" you replied.

"He knows alright, and he doesn't give a shit... he wants me dead. Too bad there's only three ways to kill me and two of them are banned at the school" L replied.

Wooden steak to the heart, banned for obvious reasons. And garlic, banned because vampires and a few other monsters are deathly allergic. The third way was the sun, too much can kill a vampire. But the sun isn't really something you can turn off, so as long as he stayed in the shade he was ok. The curtains were always closed in the school for the monsters who couldn't be out in the sun, L included.

"Fuck man, I knew he was an asshole but borderline criminal? Even worse" you said.

"See why I hate him?" L replied.

He'd be alright, a small sun spot won't kill him. It'd just sting for a bit and eventually heal over, and could be soothed with a few types of creams so L would be ok. But the fact Light would even do that made your blood boil.

"What do people see in him?" You scoffed, continuing to make your way up the halls.

"No idea..." L sighed.

That was insane, the fact Light wasn't just a jealous, manipulative ass hole but willing to commit a crime of deliberately harming another person just because they didn't like each other was pathetic.

Hang on...

He committed what would be classed as a crime... just like what the graffiti would be classed as.

"L... you think Light is the graffiti culprit?" You suggested.

L thought for a moment, not having considered it yet.

"Honestly... maybe. He definitely has the attitude for it..."
