Aemond was trembling when he entered the castle and it was not because he was drenched form the rain. For the first time in his life, Aemond was experiencing pure fear. For the kingdom, his family, his wife and daughter.
He went straight to his mother's chambers where his grandfather too was present.
"I hope it went well" his mother analysed his appearance. His clothes dripping wet, his hair tabngled and wavy because of the dampness and his shoulders were hunched.
Aemond did not know how to begin.
"We've secured lord Borros' support" he softly informed.
"Ah wonderful" Otto clapped as he smiled at the prince "why the sad face then, son?"
"Yes, what's the matter" his mother took note of his mood which was very different from how it was when he'd left earlier that day. He was trembling slightly and he was fidgeting, something she'd never seen Aemond do. He was rather good at masking his nervousness.
He knew he had to tell them, there was no way this could be kept from them.
"I got into a bit of a.. difficult situation"
Stalling, perfect.
"Good gracious, did you hump someone?" Otto asked "just forget it happened and don't tell your wi-"
"What- No!" Aemond threw a nasty look his way, did he think he was talking to Aegon? "this is about the prince Lucerys"
"What of him, my boy" his mother patiently awaited for him to continue.
"He was at storm's end" he went on "to sway the support of lord Borros towrd Rhaenyra. Lucky for us, he was sent back rather defeated"
"Oh" Alicent said, unsure of the point of the story and how that explained Aemond's odd behaviour. One of their spies had already told them of it, though it was odd the spy reached before Aemond did "and then..."
"And then I left too" he added.
His mother wondered if he had maybe indulged in a cup or two of wine at Borros' court. Where was the story going?
"Aemond this doesn't-"
"The prince never made it back" he blurted out.
Now came the tough part.
"What do you mean to say?" Otto asked, still rather confused.
"I had demanded his eye before he fled, scared" He took a deep breath to steady his ragged breathing "to torment him further, I decided to chase after him. It was all fun and games first, seeing him afraid until I lost control over Vhagar"
Alicent and Otto immediately snapped their gazes toward him, suddenly rather concerned of what Aemond was revealing to them.
"Arrax tried to attack Vhagar but then she retaliated" here it goes "she snapped her jaws at them, sending both dragon and rider to their deaths"
Alicent went pale.
"Mother have mercy on us all" she brought her hand up to cover her mouth. Aemond had just killed her dear Rhaenyra's son.
Ser Otto shared in his daughter's mortified reaction, his grandson had just ruined any chance there might've been for peace.
"You only lost one eye, how could you be so blind?" he questioned, rather disappointed "You chased after a boy with your war dragon, what did you think the outcome would be?"
