Nine years of my life were spent on endless travel, research, blood tests, and even sitting in a fucking ship for almost six years. Every ounce of time I had I used to learn a different language, and learn a different field of science I didn't think was possible.
None of it would go to waste. If it did, all hell would break loose, and I was not about to let that happen. Just about everything went right, all up until Dr. Tom Sully died. Rest in peace and everything but that was bad timing, I had undergone a few courses with him but not really enough to want to mourn.
However, my mourning did start when we found out that his twin brother would be taking over his avatar. With absolutely zero training. What a joke.Hopefully, this would go to plan, he would just have to learn, or die. The plus side was he was a marine, so he knew how to handle himself- as a person, and on Earth, that is. Pandora is another story, he'll adapt, I hope.
To say I was giddy is an understatement, the minute I walked out of the ship I swear I could've gawked at the sky for hours. The ground, however? Not so great. It was plagued with heavily armored freaks clanking their way past people.
That all changed once I got into the building, I was led by somebody into the bio-lab and after that, I showed myself around. Dazing at everything."Hi- uh," somebody's voice rips me from my swamped state. I gasp from shock and spin around to observe whoever was behind me. "I'm Norm." Norm holds out his slender hand for me to shake, I awkwardly pinch my lips together into a smile as he nods and starts to speak again. "I think we were in avatar training together?" He releases his rather clammy hand from mine and points at me with it.
He was right, we had, but I was busy staring at the test tubes full of pure Na'vi DNA. "We were, I'm Anabelle." He wipes his abnormally wet hands on his cargo trousers and nods before walking away.I already knew there was somebody on the other side of me, so I turned and looked down
"Hey." I was assuming this was Tom's brother, he looked like the spitting image. Except for the wheelchair.
"Hi.." the vials of DNA were more interesting, and my head immediately twists to see them again.
"Have you seen our avatars yet?" My ears prick up at that, how the fuck did I forget?
"Oh shit!" That came out louder than I meant for it too. Heads turn in my direction and I silently smile and wave them off. "Sorry, I'm Anabelle." I try to offer him a friendly smile but he was already wheeling himself away and towards the pods, our avatars were in.Turning the corner and seeing her, I hold my breath, this is probably one of the most surreal experiences. A grin makes its way onto my lips and I walk faster to look at my avatar. Her hair is just as long as mine, probably longer, waving down to shoulder blades.
As she lays there in a fetal position I keep staring at the darker blue strips resting on her forehead, cheeks, and arms- small patterns forming all over her body.
"Woah." I let out. Doctors chuckle at my reaction slightly. Jake moves towards me and stares just as hard as I am."They got real big, huh." He smiles as if they were his children, also mesmerized by the huge creatures that have our DNA in them. This is so fucking cool.
"You can take them out tomorrow." A man in a white lab coat stands on the other side of me, grinning. My head snaps to him, an ever bigger grin forming. "Max Patel." He offers me a handshake, which I accept absent-mindedly.
"Anabelle Gray." He chuckles, he probably knew that.
-----
Someone yelling from the other side of the bio-lab makes me jump slightly. People start scurrying for things to most likely bring for the angry person.
Norm starts rambling to Jake about something to do with 'Grace Augustine' and my eyes dart up. I read her book during my training, there aren't many better things you could read. Obviously, I start following them, digging my hands into the pockets of my white sweatpants and checking down my brown tank top for any soup stains.
