A somewhat safe-haven.

By the time it had reached nightfall both me and Sully knew it was stupid to look for each other. To be completely honest I had never even started, I didn't know my way around this jungle. The only movement I had truly made in the last few hours was very, painfully slowly down the tree and onto the ground.

Thankfully, thanators never rechecked where they left their prey- they were confident animals. That beast probably thought I had starved and wasn't interested enough to check. Should I feel insulted? I feel insulted.

Jake was probably further away from me now, marines were taught to move- specifically towards danger, which was a bad idea in this climate.

As an absent thought, I started singing to myself to pass the time. I would need to eat, but sleeping was not a good idea- so until I was found by Grace or Sully, I was not sleeping. That, however, meant I was not getting back to safety. Nobody at the bio-lab was stupid enough to interrupt a link in progress when they didn't know where we were.

During my training, I taught myself as much of the na'vi culture as was known, including my own song chord.

It was not accurate, nor was it any good, but boy was it fun to sing. Leaning against another tree and resting my elbows on my knees, I mumble the song to myself, forcing my eyes to stay open despite their disagreement.

The notes buzz through my ears, making them continue to prick up. My own voice flows through my body, giving me something to focus on other than the sounds around me.

While my eyes close, small sounds of flutters surround me. The noise most likely belonged to shimmyflys. Multiple rests themselves on my shoulders and knees, making me almost shudder- but I stop myself, taking in the experience. Refusing to open my eyes, still focusing on my own singing rather than the animals around me.

Shimmyflys were beautiful. They were similar to Terran butterflies, other than their eight iridescent, glistening wings and large span- they were pretty much the same.

After a while, I come to the end of my song- slowly as possible opening my eyes to see the animals. While their glowing skin slightly lightens the once dark, damp space around me, I stare in awe.

The bluey-green hue they offered made chills prick up on my arms over the pure beauty.
Somewhere, I feel eyes on me,  that feeling had lingered since I got myself down from the tree- but it recently strengthened. That made me somehow more nervous than I previously was.

A predatory screech sounds above me, causing the moth-like creatures to fly away from me.
I gruffly get up, trying to prepare myself for whatever was near me. From the sound- it was stingbats. As soon as I could, I shoot up from the tree and scramble frantically far from the tree.

Immediately, I start to shake- in the dark against stingbats, I was screwed. I was not sure how many there were, but they could see me right now clearer than I could see them. Damn these Pandora animals' high visual navigation system.

Once I got even the slightest glimpse of one, my spine compressed, causing my tail to whip around my thighs and pin my ears back. A frightened hiss leaves my bared teeth, they hiss right back- letting me know they did not plan on giving up.

Pandora creatures knew a true Na'vi from an avatar, so they would injure me as much as possible to get me off their planet. Stingbats terrified me: even though they only fed on smaller animals and fruit, as swarms, they could attack something bigger.

Their yellow and purple skin made them beautiful to the eye, and more approachable. Even though they are short-tempered, they learn to become attractive, especially because of the bioluminescent skin at the tip of their wings and body.

I'm pretty sure Na'vi sometimes kept them as pets- that was freaky. More start to hang upside down from branches on the tree, causing a chill to run up my spine.

Two or three dive from the boughs they hung from, flapping their wings and circling me at eye level- their bright colors distracting me as they zoom past my head at high speeds. They hiss at me, forcing me to shake my head in order to focus.

"Oh, God." My eyes shut and I frantically try to explore my mind for something to stop them. stingbats were, intelligent, most of their incredibly small brain were used for attacking or feeding.

Food, they needed food! I am a total genius. I try to celebrate while I look at the ground in search of beetles to stop their visual attack.
