The moment my eyes pop open and I am welcomed with the familiar warmth of the jungle rather than the cold, air conditioned oxygen of the lab.
Even before my brain registered it I was on my feet, looking around.I knew that Eyve was near somewhere, something in my mind told me he was and he was the first person I needed and wanted to see.
My tail swishes and whips around me as I search the area frantically.
"Damn it." I huff, and start moving towards the trunks acting as stairs. Then an idea comes to mind.
Hesitantly, I crouch onto the ground and rest onto my knees. I sit on my heels and take a deep breath.
My own brain was confused about my connection with Eywa. I didn't know whether it was just with the creatures, or Eywa.
Not knowing was terrifying, and not knowing about something that already is completely a mystery did not help.I was going this one action would help the entire ordeal to become clearer.
Whether Eywa listened to me and truly was connected to me then I was about to find out.All I knew was I shared emotion with the creatures and Eywa.
Maybe there was more. With a careful maneuver, I bring my queue to the front of my torso and hold it gently in my palm.
I stare at the wiggling tendrils and let out a shaky breath before pointing them towards the ground. They start to pull towards the grass and I gasp, watching as they desperately reach for the floor. The moment they grasp the dirt I pin my eyes shut, my ears pinned back and my tail was whipping my legs and hips every so often.
My body got immediately covered in chills and a sense of sureness and security washes over me. Being connected to a tree would do that to you.I felt rock solid, like not even a damn train could move me from this spot. Working up the nerve to open my eyes, I look around. Nothing looks that different, but it sure as hell felt different.
Everything had a reason for being around me, the leaves were growing on the trunk for a reason. The flowers were sprouting against that branch for a reason. It all felt perfect. But it didn't take my long to understand that this was Eywa's emotion, not the tree's.
Eywa felt a sense of security in this tree, she felt as though there was power behind it. But that was not what I was here for.
I picture Eyve in my mind, watching him with every ounce of love I hold. I picture his perfectly tied hair, his precise movements, the way he talks. Then when I picture his steps, the sureness in them, how aware he is of each time his body moves, I feel them.
Anytime his foot moves against the grass, I feel it. I feel him shiver when the ground shuffles under his touch. Each of his steps feels like a brush against my skin, I can't tell precisely where he is, but still, I know he is near enough. My mind zeros in on his steps, and then I watch the grass light up with each of his previous movements.
The route he took away from me glows, small dots of light leading away from me and towards him.His steps stumble, and I can tell why. The dots were now heading down the trunks that lead down from the platform I was on.
Then as I smile from the beauty of this weird situation and the strength I was feeling, his steps sped up and become heavier. They feel less and less like brushes and more and more like punches, but that's okay, at least he was approaching.
Eventually, I hear his steps rather than feel them, but I do not disconnect. Both from fear that the panic will come back and that this was fucking awesome to look out.
The huge smile on my face was probably ridiculous, but I loved every moment of this. When Eyve jumps up from the trunk, his eyes look to where I was resting in front of him. His shoulders were tense for some reason, but he'd be okay when he saw this.
