"Usually when we hang out, tears are soon to follow," Renae jokingly said to Lucky after embracing him. It's been two days since the incident and Lucky was trying to wrap his head around certain details.
"No tears dis time," he smiled, following her outside. "How are you tho?" He asked.
"I'm good," she smiled softly, "you?"
Lucky shrugged, staring at the growing garden, "I'm good... I wanted to thank you,"
Curious, Renae sat down and stared at him, "thank me?"
Lucky nodded, messing with the tomato, "for trusting me with Ava... I know why OG reacted tha' way he did but I appreciate you for giving me a chance off rip."
"I knew you meant well," she casually replied.
"I also wanted to thank you for allowing me to feel safe whenever speaking with you."
Studying him briefly, Renae propped her hand under her chin, "what's bothering you?"
"Nun," he finally stared at her, "I know if I'm not home den I'm with Kai a lot, but I am grateful to be a part of tha' family... I guess..." he sighed, "I'm crazy in love with your daughter."
Renae smiled, "take a seat," she slid over.
Doing just that, Lucky gazed at the clear sky momentarily before speaking, "I know I'm not perfect but Ava makes me feel as if I am. Despite what's going on, she hasn't gotten upset with me or mentioned any regrets... there's dis lil voice in my head dats telling me I messed up."
"Do you think you messed up?" She nudged him.
Lucky shook his head then smiled softly, "I am so in love with her... I don't know what to do with myself anymore," he shamefully shook his head. "I always knew I loved her but Red... today I woke up feeling a range of emotions I've never experienced. I was scared to be around her 'cause I have no clue what's going on inside of me."
"What exactly are you feeling?"
"Like I'm high," he chuckled, "like I'm not even real when I'm around her... like... I'm in love with everything about her but today... tha' sight of her had me tripping some'n serious. It's crazy 'cause she ain't do nun but get ready for work with lil mama by her side. But it's like damn..." he smiled, looking down, "I ain't tryna disrespect you or nun, but if she wasn't pregnant... let's just say today she would've been."
Renae busted out laughing.
Lucky was confused. He was trying to have a serious conversation and his in-law was laughing. "Um... I'm kind of offended,"
"I'm sorry," she snickered, "it's the way you said the last part but everything you're talking about is normal, Luck."
"You sure?" He wasn't convinced.
Amused, Renae nodded, "yes... it sounds like you're starting to experience a hormonal shift but most doctors would say you're experiencing couvade syndrome."
"Huh?" He frowned.
"It's when men start to experience pregnancy symptoms with their partner. Understanding how connected you two are, I'm surprised it's just now happening..." she chuckled.
"So..." he paused, "are you telling me dat I've been moody because of my wife?"
Renae nodded, "depends on the situation but from what you said, absolutely."
Speechless, Lucky shook his head, "damn... and here I was thinking I was just overwhelmed with love."
"That still is the case... but if you're experiencing couvade syndrome, everything will intensify. The way pregnant people feel things, you'll now get secondhand experience."
