Today was a bad day. A really bad day. Namjoon wanted to forget this day ever even happened. He knew something was wrong the minute he woke up. And he did not like that at all. His thoughts were proved when Jackson burst into his room, diving onto the floor between the bed and the window.
"Namjoon! Get down!" Jackson yelled, desperately pulling on Namjoon's hand.
Namjoon felt his heartbreak, he hated seeing Jackson like this. As he climbed out of bed and sat next to Jackson to calm him down, he heard a loud bang outside. Jackson screamed and ducked, covering his head. Quickly getting up, Namjoon looked outside and saw that there was some construction happening down the street. He shut the window tight to lessen the noise as much as he could before he joined Jackson on the floor.
"Jackson. Jackson, hey." Namjoon gently grabbed Jackson's shoulders, directing him to make eye contact.
"Joon, they're," He gasped for air a little bit as a panic attack started to settle into his features. "They're coming for us. We- we- we need to leave, get out of here-" Jackson wheezed, eyes tearing up.
"Jackson, listen to me. I need you to take a deep breath, buddy. Come on." Namjoon gently said to his best friend, heartbreaking at the scared look in his eyes.
"Joon," Jackson choked on a sob as he tried to take in some much-needed air.
"I'm right here Jackson. We're not there anymore." Namjoon reassured, taking one of Jackson's hands and tapping a slow, steady beat onto his palm. "Count the beat for me buddy, come on."
"One. T-two. The-three." Jackson shakily counted, still trying to take deep breaths.
"That's it. There ya go." Namjoon smiled a little, still tapping and breathing with his best friend. "Can you tell me where we are?" He asked softly after a few minutes once he saw Jackson's breathing become steadier.
"We... We're in our dorm room..." Jackson mumbled, looking around a little bit before focusing again on Namjoon's mismatched eyes, the contrasting shades of blue and brown calming him down a little bit more. "Your r-room to be exa-exact," small tears slid down his face and Namjoon was quick to gently wipe them away.
"Mhm. We're safe, ok? We're not back there anymore. I promise." Namjoon gently hummed, pulling Jackson into a hug.
Jackson buried his face into Namjoon's shoulder as he cried softly. Namjoon just held him tightly, knowing this is what he needed right now. Whispering small reassurances into his ear, Namjoon gently rubbed his hand up and down Jackson's back as they just sat on the floor together.
"It's all in the past buddy, promise," Namjoon whispered, feeling Jackson nod a little into his shoulder.
'It's all in the past' Namjoon thought to himself as he focused on making sure his best friend was ok.
"Want me to see if Mark will come over?" Namjoon asked softly once Jackson finally pulled away.
"No," a meek whisper left Jackson's lips. "I don't want him to see me like this right now."
"Ok," Namjoon gave him a small smile. "Wanna build a fort and watch movies then? Like we did when we first got a house to ourselves?" Namjoon knew that this small act would make Jackson feel better.
"Yeah." Jackson nodded and hugged himself a little bit. "Can we have some ice cream too?"
Namjoon nodded with a soft smile. Jackson returned it and stood up from the floor with his best friend. The two then went about getting all of the required supplies to build their fort and spent the rest of the day as close to one another as possible.
