Aria's POV
I had waited at Spencer's the whole night and had even fallen asleep on the couch without meaning to. The sound of keys twisting in the lock startles me from my sleep and my eyes snap open. "Spencer?" I hear a familiar voice call. I stand up and look towards the door and see Melissa Hastings dragging in a couple of suitcases. "Aria?" Melissa asks frowning. It was clear from her expression that she hadn't been expecting me at all. "Where is Spencer?" Melissa asks setting her keys down. She still looked a little shocked but mostly she looked curious.
"She left last night." I reply my heart beating feebly at the memory of what I had said to Spencer. I was so horrible to her and why? Just because she wanted to help me? What if something terrible has happened to her? Surely, she would have been home by now. My head was racing with questions so much so that I hadn't heard Melissa say something to me.
"Aria!" Melissa says waving her hand at me when she was sure I was paying attention she continued. "What do you mean she left last night?"
"W-we had an argument, it was really stupid and I said some pretty hurtful things." I reply my eyes filling with tears. "What if something terrible has happened to her? I know she's a sensible driver but she was really upset." My tears had come loose as I voiced my concerns to Melissa.
"Relax Aria, we'll find her." Melissa reassures. I hope I was coming off as a concerned friend and not a worried girlfriend, I didn't need to out Spencer as well. Melissa pulls her phone from her pocket and starts to dial a number. I had called Spencer multiple times but she never answered and eventually it just kept cutting to voicemail. I sink back down on the couch losing what little hope I had if this was how Melissa was going to find Soencer it wasn't going to work. "Hello?" I hear Melissa ask and I turn my head sharply towards her. Spencer had answered? "Spencer, where are you... because I'm home... long story stop asking why." Melissa frowns in annoyance. "Yeah she's still here... Where are you... are you okay... Why?" This time it was Melissa's turn to ask why. She looks at me with a guarded expression. It was really starting to get on my nerves the way I couldn't hear what Spencer was saying.
"Can I talk to her?" I ask somewhat angrily. Melissa holds up a thin finger to silence me.
"As long as you're okay... I understand... she's worried about you... tell him I said hi." Melissa says before hanging the phone up swiftly. That conversation made zero sense to me since the other side had been silent but as long as Spencer was okay then I could relax a little. She still didn't want to talk to me which I could understand, what I had said should never have been spoken. "Is she okay?" I ask Melissa who was still looking at me curiously.
"She is." Melissa pauses looking at me expectantly. "I can't tell you where she is she doesn't want that."
"I figured." I reply feeling my heart drop. Wait, Melissa had said tell him hi that means Spencer was staying with someone, that wasn't me. I take a deep breath trying to compose myself. Spencer was right I had to face my family sometime and since I couldn't hide away forever I was determined to do it now. Melissa was ignoring me sitting crossed legged at the kitchen counter reading a magazine. I shoot up from my sitting position on the couch and Melissa turns her head towards me. I hadn't seen Melissa for a while I don't even think she came to her mother's funeral. Spencer said something about how Melissa got stuck in London and she was an emotional wreck anyway. I knew the relationship between the two hasn't always been that great but recently they've been getting along a lot better almost sisterly. "Do you mind if I freshen up here?" I ask indicating towards the stairs. Melissa shakes her head and I begin my climb upstairs. As soon as I've had a shower, got dressed, put my makeup on and done my hair I start towards the stairs only to stop halfway to them. I turn and look into Spencer's room. It was tidy which it usually was but the bed was unmade. I step into her room and pick up the jersey I had borrowed to sleep in. I lift it to my nose and take a big sniff of the scent which was exactly like Spencer. That was why I loved this old jersey because it smelt just like her. Okay, maybe I was acting a little bit like a crazy stalker. I pull my phone out and tap on my dad's number. He picks up after the third ring. "Aria!" My dad yells but I can tell he's relieved.
"Is mom home?" I ask avoiding my father's obvious anger.
"Not right now." His voice is softer at the mention of my mother.
"Can you call her and get her to come over I think it's time we had a talk." I say my hand was shaking slightly if I hadn't been so horrible to Spencer then she would be here now holding me and trying to comfort me something I really needed.
"Of cause I can but..." My dad trails off and I frown in confusion.
"What? What is it?" I ask my confusion evident in my tone.
"I think it's best if you don't bring Spencer." My dad says and my throat tightens with the mention of Spencer's name. I couldn't if I wanted too, is what I wanted to say but instead I swallowed hard and put on my bravest voice.
"I wasn't going to, I need to have a talk with mom just me and her." I reply. It was silent for a moment before I hear my dad sigh.
"Okay, I'll see you soon."
"Love you." I say.
"I love you too." He replies before he hangs up. I slip my phone into my pocket and gaze one last time around Spencer's room. My heart wrenched with sadness of the absence of her and I wasn't sure if I could be like this forever. I was barely keeping it together now. I heave a deep sigh and then make my way out to go face my mother.
