"Palm? Why don't you answer?"

The young man in question suddenly pulled away from Nueng and ran off before Chanon could open the door wide due to his lack of responsiveness.

"Dad," he exclaimed breathlessly, torn between relief at having stopped him in time and concern regarding what he could possibly want from him in the morning.

His father noted his dark hair, all tousled following his unforeseen sprint, before telling him why he had come, in a calmer tone now that he had confirmation that his son was fine:

"You haven't shown up for breakfast yet, so I was worried."

Palm smiled faintly at him

Palm smiled faintly at him. His father must have wondered what on earth he was doing wandering around his room in his undershirt instead of going down to the kitchen for breakfast with him as time went on.

"Ah... it's because... I'm not very hungry today... so I decided to skip breakfast..." he pretended to avoid his father's gaze, which wasn't so rare, and didn't arouse his father's suspicions.

"Okay, if that is what you want... What about the young master? Where is he? Don't tell me he's still asleep?"

"I..."

Palm looked over his shoulder at the place where he had left the young master concerned, who had not made a move for fear of being spotted, where he was not really supposed to be this morning, or at any other time, for that matter.

He discreetly shook his hand to encourage Palm to keep a low profile as well. What the young man had anyway the intention to do.

"He's been up for a while now, Dad," Palm said as he turned to face his father again, as if nothing had happened

"He's been up for a while now, Dad," Palm said as he turned to face his father again, as if nothing had happened.

It wasn't really a lie. Palm was just omitting to mention that Nueng might be awake, but he had not yet left his room, or rather... his servant's room.

"Really? It's strange we haven't run into each other yet, then," Chanon remarked as he looked around, surprised to be faced with only a deep silence.

Palm's smile became tense at the thought that he would have to rack his brains again to find something logical and believable to say that would satisfy his father's curiosity.
